the allowance

suh i give this child an allowance of 5.00 weekly. Two weeks ago I reduced it to 2.50 per week (recession and all)

During the week mi notice seh instead of the purse having 70 odd dollars (she keeps it in a purse in her desk), it now have 40 odd dollars.

suh mi ask har what she spend the money on. she a hee and a hem and start sulk and nuh want to discuss it.

suh mi keep pressing until she tell mi seh she carry it guh school guh give one bway weh siddung in front of her. One likkle bway weh mi know the madda.

Likklegen seh she give it to him cause they had a <span style="font-weight: bold">BET</span>

mi juss explain to her that betting is a form of gambling and that little children should not be betting.


unnu think mi should mention it to the odda madda ?? or just mek she learn her lesson (which includes an even more reduced allowance of 1.00 , matter of fact I might reduce it to 5 cents a week)


Yes I initially told her that the money was hers to do with what she liked (within reason) but this was not what mi had in mind

unnu know wah. mi gwine deposit what leave inna the desk and from now on juss gie har 1 cent a week and see how long it tek har fi save up and buy one icy mint wid dat

I would def. alert the other parent. I'm sure they're wondering how their child got all this money.

Little Gen was wrong and needs to understand the penalties of betting. I say the money she gave away in the bet, is what she gave away in allowance. She should not be able to spend for the next 2 weeks.

I will leave the rate reduced for an additional 4 weeks......

just let her know also that betting is illegal for minors

and yes have a tlk with the boy's mom about what transpired
and if the little boy mom tell him to return the money take it cause he needs to learn that gambling is ba

I would not reduce her allowance further cause it sound like u a punish her for a crime that she did not know was a crime. You already educate her on betting so now she noh it is something not to do.

I would however take the opportunity to tell her in times of recession it is important to save more and say she can save 80% of her allowance.

Definitely tell the other parent what was going on but dont have any expectation the money gwine come back to likkleGen. The other parent may be wondering where the $$ came from.

mi marinate likkle bit while folding laundry and mi come back in to add that

to be fair, she did not know anything about gambling because it's not something we had discussed. so yes, I agree that she did not know that it was something that children should not be doing.

suh is not like she did know seh it wrong and still guh dweet.

though i must add that when i was talking to her about it i was very calm and didn't freak out about it, mi juss mek it seem like a normal conversation
