SLEEPY EYE, MINN. -- The lead investigator in the disappearance of cancer patient Daniel Hauser and his mother directly appealed to her this afternoon to come back.

&quot;The main thing I want to say is Colleen Hauser should come home and talk to us,&quot; Brown County Sheriff Rich Hoffman said this afternoon. &quot;We just want to talk to her and Danny.&quot;

Daniel Hauser's father said earlier today he believes his son and his wife have left the country, but won't say where he thinks they have gone to keep out of reach of authorities.

&quot;I have an opinion where they are, but I can't say I know,&quot; said Anthony Hauser, adding that he has placed a call to a telephone where he believes he can reach them.

Hauser specifically said he does not believe Daniel and Colleen Hauser have fled to Canada. The mother and son have fled to avoid having the boy be forced to undergo the chemotherapy that doctors believe is his only hope to survive cancer.

on the one hand I belive that the court has the right to intervene if the parents decision is determental to the health/life of the child. eg: up here they did for Jehova' witness who refused blood transfusion for the child.

Now as far as chemo...depends on the age of the child, advance stage of the cancer, have they done chemo before? aye sah...it's sticky

Hmmm I posted this story five days ago, and no one had a comment. I think this is a classic parenting case about who gets to decide what is best for the child, courts or parents. The parents of Daniel Hauser have failed him with their absurd religious beliefs. As someone who has gone through chemo, and has a mediport in his chest, I can assure you that no parent would want their child to have to go through chemotherapy. But Daniel won't be getting over his cancer without the treatment, and saying that a 13 year old has the wits to decide what to choose is absurd. There is no <span style="font-style: italic">real</span> choice. It is chemo or death.

I can imagine their anxieties, and I fear a tragic end to this story. This sentence is a sign of our times isn't it?...&quot;The mother and son have fled to avoid having the boy be forced to undergo the chemotherapy that <span style="color: #FF0000">doctors believe</span> is his only hope to survive cancer.&quot; I can just hear that small percentage of people cheering the Hausers on their sad flight from treatment saying, &quot;Doctors don't know EVERYTHING!

I don't really know what to think either! I figured it would be a good topic for a conversation.

And the whole media input could be skewed. Needless to say it's in our local news about every half hour but who knows what to believe! What they are saying is that this is an easy cancer to cure and that they have a good chance. But...is what they are saying the truth?

Why would <span style="font-style: italic">they</span> lie? Anyone can just Google Hodgkin's lymphoma and find hours of reading if you are concerned about the medical profession's ability to deal with the disease... and the effects of chemo.

Hi Forty. I am not concerned with the medical communities abilities. I am far too busy to read/research further. The news is on again and that is what they said. I don't generally believe every single thing I hear on televised news, which is why I made the comment.


None of that matters anyway, I was thinking this would be an interesting topic. that's all...

so that native healing group/cult they belong to sounds like a group of wacko's apology in advance as I only know what the article mentions.

Yes in this case the court should intervene...I would lock up the dad, he knows more than he is letting on as to the whereabouts
