Infant Cough that won't go away

Not my infant, my cousin's son has had this cough since Christmas gone. They have taken him to see many doctors but none of them have diagnosed anything. They all conclude it is a viral infection and gave him meds that have done nothing. He coughs up phlegm and the cough sounds so nasty it sounds like he is near death. Everytime he swallows he chokes and starts a fit of coughing til he vomits. They ruled out asthma.

how old? is he on the bottle?
Diode his Doc check him for Croup?
A sort of dry caugh infants get after they have the common cold. the resultant caugh and the infection causes inflamation to migrate to the upper epiglotis.
Tis is because the infants anatonomy is so small, that infections tend to migrate further than it would in a older person. That is why colds in children should be treated promptly,before it leads to more serious ailments.

yes almost everytime he swallows...i think they had diagnosed him for bronchitis but it should have gotten better already

He does something like whioopong caugh.and gets out of breath,because he lose control of his diaphram during th eepisode. he can actually go unconcious due too lack of oxygen.
If that should happen they better have a respirator ready to asist him.
About How old is he?
And do you know what treatment he got?
Was he admittied?
Was he put on a warm/moist air respirator for sometime?

he has had antibiotics, and they have a nebulizer....he has been in and out of the hospital for as long as i can remember...

his mother says the doctors do not want to prescribe any more meds because he is only 1.

It opens his airway, but it does not treat hos problem, It can contribute to thsi cough, because it dries out this airway pasage and causes minute cracks in the liniung, thes minute cricks will act as caugh initiator. What is the color of the sputom he brings up when he caughs? Of itios not appropriately treated he will go on to become an athsmatic.

I don't know what color it is...I was just talking to her this evening and he came up which I why I posted because I can't believe he has had this cough for so long and the doctors have seemingly given up. She says he has an appointment at the end of the month but she needs to get him to a specialist ASAP if you ask me.

Question: can his cough be contagious still as he have had it for so long. I must say that every time they visit us my girls end up sick...Sarah has been in the ER twice since the year start and that was right after his visits.

If it has any colour other than normal saliva it will be contagious, even sometimes when it is clear. The problem is that he has an injury to hos respiratory tract and it will get infected by particles in the air he breathes. this infection can be any thing. this is the case with all bronchitis, sinusitis, cold virus etc.
