I was so tired of MJ coverage on tv that I settled on watching the Kardashians reruns...Bruce Jenner was quarreling with his 11 yo daughter about her makeup wearing...

what age is it appropriate for young girls to begin wearing makeup? How much makeup is too much makeup for kids under 18?

lipgloss is fine IMO....

Lip gloss is fine in my opinion. Make up is another of those things that if I have a daughter will wait until she is an adult to make that decision. I don't wear makeup and while it wasn't allowed when I was younger it is another thing that I really don't feel I missed out on. If when she is adult and decides she wants to wear make up then I will direct her to get proper instruction and tips so it works as an enhancement and that she doesn't end up looking like she is going to war.

she will be introduced to taking care of her skill from very early however which starts off with always moisturize.

My girls were allowed to wear clear lip gloss from the age of 15 and mascara, but only if they were going some place special. Absolutely no nail varnish. In my opinion one of the trashiest looks is chipped nail polish . I taught my eldest to apply makeup when she reached 18 and will do the same with my youngest.

YuhSiMi maybe that is what is annoying about it these young teens with makeup on that is poorly applied and a really trashy look. I overheard 2 at the bus stop talking and this child (not more than 14) spends 1 hr on her hair each morning and 45 mins - 1 hr on her face. there is no way I want my teen to be that obsessed ... hers looked decent so I guess the 2 hr routine worked.

Flippin heck, mi memba if mi mout did shine a school how de six fawma dem use to waa come ask mi if mi a wear lip glos - cawse apparently even dat was gense de rules.

While lip gloss was against de rules, Vaseline wasn't. So mi used to haffi lie an say a Vaseline.

Den dem ooda ask mi how come mi nuh ha de white line roun mi lip (yuh know de one? When yuh put awn Vaseline pon yuh lip an have it awn fi a likkle while, yuh get dis congealed looking sitn along yuh lip whichawt dem touch...) anyway, when dem ask mi dat, mi used to jus tell dem say a caw mi JUS put it awn... \0/

Funny enough, mi madda used to always want mi fi wear make-up. She always waa experiment pon mi. Mi memba how she convince mi say har foundation ooda look nice pon mi skin an ting... But afta mi siddung a har foot an mek she 'fix mi up' an den mi go look eena de bawtchroom mirror, mi neahly dead from fright, de way mi look like duppy

Cawse mi madda is very light skinned and I am not. So when she a go put fi har foundation pon mi it mek mi fayva day ghost...

Still, mi hardly wear make-up even from mi was young, except fi mi foundation or concealer, cawse mi skin is not what it used to be

Prezackly my point Nunya. The young grls have beautiful youthful dewy skin, why clog it up with make up? Plus they are CHILDREN and should ve seen as such. Wha dem warnt wear mek up fah?

And trust me Twiny, we in the UK are not as adept at applying make up as I have witnessed in the US. It looks like the girls here take hints from music videos so they apply make up with it seems a trowel. Not pretty at all... Yuk!

Sorry but this made me spit up my tea

Growing up, I dont think my mom cared either way - she never expressed an opinion - but my dad was dead dead set against any lick of makeup.

I started sneaking off to school with my black eyeliner cause that was the look in the 80's but overall I didnt start wearing &quot;real&quot; makeup until end of high school/university.

Mom would buy me the Avon kids sutff like the lip gloss in the hamburger case and I would wear it when dad wasnt around but the full war paint I just never had the desire to put on until I was older.


And I think it was due to my mom's nonchalant attitude - it didnt seem like I was missing out on anything.

IF I had girl children, I'd be the same. They can do a bit of lip gloss so that they feel they are getting a bit of what they want but eyeshadow and foundation definitely not. :shmaeu: It isnt because I think of how they will look because I could always teach them how to put it on porperly, but more that like what Nunya said, why mess with their good skin at that age. <span style="font-weight: bold">Uneven tone and the rest will come soon enough and then they will NEED foundation </span>

You only get that beautiful young skin once so I'd be like my mom and be religious about how they wash and moisturize and thing. I got my first full skin care line when I was 12 yrs old and zits were becoming the norm I think it was Charles Ritz she bought me and from then on I didnt have the acne problems like you normally do at that age.

So, if you can teach your girls to value these actvities then maybe they wont want to loo like the chicks in the music videos

I knew one young woman who started doing the tanning thing when she was in her teens. She became addicted. Now she look preternaturally orange...

And to combat that, she daubs on the makeup in an attempt to normalize her skin. When you look closely at her face, you can see where the skin is unnaturally taut in places, like it was burnt and healed somewhat...

Now her mom is a nurse and I've wondered aloud how it was that her mother didn't stop her from doing the tanning thing... knowing the dangers, not just cosmetically but health wise...

Course, like most Canadian kids, she said her mother couldn't/wouldn't tell her what to do.

Now it's too late and she's stuck on this cycle.

I told her that before long, she's gonna look like that woman from 'There's Something About Mary'...

Too sad...

My neice is 14 and has the option to wear makeup (her parent are very liberal) a couple of her GF's wear full foundation eye shadow etc etc. For her grad I offered to take her to Mac to get what ever she wanted. Her response was that she doesnt want to look like a &quot;cake face&quot; so she just wanted an eyeliner, lipgloss and mascara .

I even managed to get her away from the black eyeline

I started wearing eyeshadow and chap stick at the age of 11. I didn't wear foundation until I was in my mid 20&quot;s.

wash yuh face, put on chapstick (cause we have winters here) and sunblock and gwaan bout yuh business.

yuh sound like mi mother... I've bought my niece different kinds of lip gloss and she is just turning 11 but these are normally the pickney versions which wear off before u say who that.

That's what I say too, Gen. My dawta is almost 23 now and never wears makeup. there's a lot of chemicals in most of that mess - not good for your skin at all.
