My girls got their Hindu names today

Sarah is now Shakti which means energy or power

Abigail is now Sherwalie which is a form of the warrior goddess Durga.


so I have energetic and war mongering children

The naming ceremony is called a Namakaran which is a part of *their* tradition and culture. Anyway the name is based on the child's astrological sign and is supposed to be an indicator of the child's fortune and destiny.

Skelly this reminds me of a question I have had from the other day can a non-Indian (like an African/Caucasian) be a Hindu? you know like how u have mix multitude Christian and Muslim?

yes one can convert ot Hinduism but it is more a way of life than soemthing official like how we baptize ppl in Christianity. As to whether the Hindu community will accept you is another question

wow... I could not imagine my child participating in such a ceremony and not being present to witness it. Is it because you are not Hindu that you did not attend?? I am sure the outlaws have something to say
