it not even di nagging per se... cah fi mi parents are not the only ones to have asked. baptism/church dedication is a big deal...for some people. finding a minister wouldn't even be an issue. i just don't believe in it. i mean i believe that God is responsible for hunter being here (deed God knows ah di truth daht) and mi feel like mi should acknowledge that in some kinna way, but fi go dress up hunter in outfit fi go stand up in front of minister? mi naw feel daht atall. mi nu understand what would be di point.

she neva mek no fuss when she ask ahn mi nu anticipate any, but mi nu want di "disappointment" ting hold ova mi head niedah.

i did it in my parent's church because i wasn't strongly against it, and couldn't bother with the constant asking and disappointment thing eida....

but u seem to be have a strong opinion about it.

well juss have a blessing/dedication ceremony at the house/backyard with close friends and family (and godparents if yuh have any) and give thanks in your own way and yadda yadda yadda, and call it a day.

Personal view ... baptism is for when smaddy old/mature enough to make that conscious decision. For me it was no big deal for the whole dedication thing ... one day I was at my mother's church and decided that I wanted the pastor to do it then... and him just pray for him... not the whole family dress up go stand up in front of church thing ...

ILP are both your parents christian? Why not ask them to just do a dedication/prayer for him ?... that should satisfy them and you don't have to do the whole baptism thing

yes they are both christians.
dem go to other weddings (for their kids), baptisms/dedications for other grand kids.
i've gone to them, myself, for my siblings and in-laws.
they are big deals. the dress up, minister, cook food, special invite ahn dem tings deh would haffi commence...

Oh. The big deal thing - food, dress up, etc. - I personally don't check for those kinds of formalities so I can I relate Miss ILP. I had my first one baptized at age 4 months dressed in his Osh-Kosh pullovers then we went for ice cream after church. The second one, I, um, forgot to baptize but did so when he was 8 years old . He just wore his usual Sunday School clothes.

It's a celebration of Hunter's safe delivery and a new life in this world. It's not just <span style="text-decoration: underline">any </span>event.

Some persons will have a celebration in church and others may not. Your lifestyle and appreciaton of it will dictate what you do.

I imagine you have a special relationship with Father God an your parents are Christians, so from my point of view there's no harm in giving thanks through a pastor at church. You don't have to have a yard-party. Saying thanks can be enough.

It's a major sign of gratitude.

sigh...mi will marinate pon what oonu present. mi juss nu inna di form ahn fashion tings. i dont do institutionalized nuttin for the sake of it. I HATE IT. maybe if is just have one likkle sumpting here in the house ahn have smaddy come from one church come dweet.

or maybe something that wi (as in mi ahn di current mr ilp) do ourselves with hunter.

as for the special expressions of pastors...yes, mi agree, them do have dem own ways...it usually involve di offering plate.

Baptism, to me, involves someone making a personal decision to have a relationship wid god yadda yadda an go church, read dem bible and study etc.

I see the christening as a blessing of the child and celebrating their birth (as smaddy up top say). I don't think u have to be all up in the church for that.

Most christenings I've been to were held at banquet halls, reserved rooms in restaurants, ppl yaad, etc with a minister to bless the child, parents and recognize the godparents
