weird eh, a group of white teens will be piggy backing,<span style="font-weight: bold"> swearing loudly </span>on public transport, but they're just &quot;being kids&quot;; change that to a group of black teens and they're just being &quot;typical blacks&quot; complete with the stares/sneers of resentment.

when i was growing up my aunt had all kinds of rules for me too, including &quot;don't hang around with those white kids, because if anything goes wrong you'll get the blame for it&quot;.

I was just talking to a woman couple weeks ago with a teenage son and she said she told him don't follow his friends because where as police will give them a warning they will take his butt to jail!

my own just turn 9 and mi nuh have dem kinda talk wid har yet

mi sure she wouldan look pan mi like this

No cause its not only a race thing. My parents told me things like that just talking about my friends in general, if you see them doing this that and the other, you don't bother try it, remember puss and dog don't have the same luck.

My parents told me the same thing while I was <span style="font-style: italic">growing up in Ja</span>.

However, here, in the land of white, it takes on a new connotation. And sometimes you have to be blunt with your kids for them to get it.

I tell my son that if he and his friends are hanging out on the street corner after school, there is a 99% chance that if the cops pull up, he's the one they will target.

If someone throws an egg at a house, and he and his white friends are around, he'll be the one accused.

I tell him. I show him examples when I come across them etc.

I don't want him to be paranoid or to develop a persecution complex, but I don't want him to have a rude awakening either.

I get no pleasure pointing out to him how much the world is weighed against him, but I think it's my duty do it.

The first time I can recall have the talk with my kid, I think he was in the first grade... or was it second???

In any event, I was <span style="font-style: italic">forced</span> into having the talk because:

The teachers sent home a note and called and left a message on my phone that they needed to see me regarding a very important matter.

When I went to the school the next day I found out that he was being accused of theft.

Seems all the kids had to remove their outdoor shoes before entering the class room. When they were going out end of day, he put on another kids shoes. He and the kid had the same make, although my son's was a little bigger.

The other kid's mom called the school to say that her son had the wrong pair of shoes. She saw that the shoes was a size too big.

The next day, the teachers checked the shoes on the kids and saw that my son had on the other kid's shoes. I had not even noticed

They started giving him the talk about taking things that did not belong to him. They concluded the talk by saying to him: &quot;So what have you learnt from this?&quot;

His response: &quot;I should not steal.&quot;

So they called and left me the message.

I go into school, they tell me that he stole the other kids shoes.

Trust me, mi pressha a rise now jus membaing dis!
