As a black parent, I taught my daughter not to be participate in loud conversations on public transportation with her friends even if with her classmates (on a school trip) although she'd be the only black child. Her teachers at first thought she was being anti-social, so they mentioned it to me and I explained why. They were "appalled" but after that they became more aware of the stares she'd get and the questions parents asked about her social interaction in the classroom with her white counterparts. ... .."
