I can only tell you my experience, Keyer . I travel a lot on my current job and started traveling when my boys were teenagers. It was particularly hard on my husband as our older son, at the time, required more attention than the younger one ... typical teenage angst ... all over now

If a spouse travels, there's going to have to be some flexibility in what your definition of &quot;family life&quot;? What do you mean? Meals, homework, household chores?

Here's how we did it:

Had cleaning service for house every two weeks (worth it!!)
Although it was hard for me, I had to just forget about trying to control each little &quot;family issue&quot; from a distance. I just had to let my husband handle the situation and just accept it. Even if it meant they were eating too many fast food dinners Never mind that my husband is an excellent cook, he just wasn't into planning meals.
I made up for my lost contact time with my children by having a &quot;dinner night&quot; with each child. My younger son loved this. He would pick the restaurant - usually Applebees - and we would talk about his week at school, etc.

That's all I can offer now. But tell us what your specific concerns are and maybe we'll all add here and there....

I am feeling a little uncomfortable with it. As the nurturer it would benefit your kids to have you closer to home. I have too many horror stories to tell about moms who travel for work.

My kids are still youngish to be left alone (8 and 12) and while my mother is in the house is not like dem a get good good supervision .

I did do this before it and took a long while (over 6 months) for the mister to get with the program. I ended up getting a sitter in the afternoons to do the run around and homework.

Yes definitely on the cleaning service I did have that and they came once a week (cause wid 2 kids, 2 dogs dem have nuff mess)

but I think my real issue is I dont have the support system. My mother is here but she has her ailments and girlKia will not let her comb her hair, and while mrKia has combed her hair, it is resulted in a 'uncombed look'.

There was the day the family came to meet me at the airport on a lovely May day. GirlKia was sporting snowboots with heart leggings, a blue striped shirt and the clip on her hair was at the tail end of the ponytail, dutty face Boykia's hair had not been brushed since I left but he was a little more matched. the memories scare me

So I think a gentle hairbraider is in order and I can organize girlKia's clothes (plus she is older and matches better) and find a college person for the kids to do homework and drive around with. If I can do this it can be a better sell to mrKia

The cooking part I am not worried about as mrKia enjoys and does not mind the cooking but it is the child care aspect (the hw, projects, tae kwon do and fencing) im noh really into

I hear you but I think with supervision from 3- 7 they should be fine on the weeks I am away and on the non travelling weeks I will be working from the home office.
