Kids and Thank You's

if oonu already discuss this...i've forgotten...I'd appreciate oonu just pointing me in the discussion's direction. thanks.

So the shower has come and gone. I've begun the process of writing personal thank you notes for what I and di current mr. ilp have received. I've discovered what I think is going to be a major source of contention when the crumbsnatcher arrives. I want our kid to grow up having manners and to me the thank you (verbally and in written form) is a major part of it.

di current mr ilp feels that simply <span style="text-decoration: underline">saying</span> thank you is enough. I dont agree. I think sending <span style="text-decoration: underline">hand written notes</span> is more appropriate. What oonu think? When is a verbal thank you enough? When is a written note more appropriate.

For showers, wedding, graduation etc or money written is the best idea even if you have already said thank you verbally.

Anything else unless is a really big gift then verbal is fine ... and if smaddy really go outa them way to help then written is required even if there is no physical gift.

the norm around here ( the south ma'am), is written thank you notes for birthday and similar occasion gifts.

usually I just make them call them relatives and tell them thank you (but maybe grandma and auntie *would* appreciate a note )

I always send tank u cards..usually accompanied by a photo...so mek sure u tek wan jus bawn pic wid weight, length, time an date stamp pan ie...ppl appreciate those very much

i am a fan of hand written notes (and mi not talking email/texts). it shows appreciation in my p.o.v.

Well having seen the response when people get the thank you notes even if you buy the card with pre-printed stuff and then add you notes ..trust mi ILP it means a lot (the genuine smile and nuff time shock cause them no expect to get it mek it worth it 150%)

me get a few scribbles too (from LB's classmates when him was in kindergarten)

the mothers use the pre-printed cards and the child just scribble in LB's government name

Ditto.. when they were younger we used the pre printed ones but now as they are older we ordered stationery with their name on it so they can personalised thank you notes.

They write thank you for all gifts.

As a person who gives gifts to lots of little ones, I have to say it doesn't matter to me how I get the thank you as long as I get it. A phone call means as much to me as a card, cause frankly I read the card then put it in the trash so I really don't have a preference.

Very important to teach kids certain etiquette and rewarding - where we used to live there are a few regular shops we would visit from he was small to being a teenager - and the shopowners still comment to me what a nice polite boy he is.


AS for thank you note, yes, important to let gift givers know/feel that their thoughtfulness was appreciated. For hand-made or larger items, I always try to send a photo showing them the item is being used. (good for the kids as they grown, so they can see their pics with a keepsake item)
