Spent the last hour

calming Adale ... trying to convince him that he is smart that is why he will be going to grade 1 at age 5 while the other kids are older.

Unno come tell me what to do...
Am I over reacting or is it ok to send note to teacher/visit school? Or just give the pickney one facety message to deliver?

1.Last couple of weeks he hasn't had his school snack at school
2.Monday he told me he doesn't want to be in French Immersion any more. He wants to be in a different class.
3.Tonight he tells me he wont be going to grade 1 because he is only 5 (3rd time he tells me this) My response was well you are the youngest one in the class because you are smart. Then he said I'm not that smart so then I reminded him that he can count to 50 in french so that makes him pretty smart. Now him actually had tears running down him face and all.

After much pressure he told me which child told him so ... now this is the pickney weh follow back a him like ticks pon cow back and copy every thing him do or say ... in fact the night at the parent teacher conference him could only tell him pa what him want to be able to do by the time him reach grade one after over hearing what adale was telling me. Now mi have to wonder if this pickney is one that the teacher had to call the parents cause she concerned bout them performance and him trying to push him problems pon mine. Now I remember why home schooling looked so appealing to me.

He is either being bullied or being teased that he does not belong there because he is too young.
Otherwise if he was home schooled he is not comfortable with all the others being bigger and not specially older.
Recommended Best intervention would be to spend sometime in his class with him to reassure him and possible send a message.

Twiney, I had something similar happen to my kid when he was in Kindergarten. The other kid would stick with my kid peepee cluckcluck. One minute he'd be telling mine how great he is, how funny he is, how much he liked him - and the next, he'd tell my son how stupid he was, how clumsy and that nobody likes him.

Yeah, my kid wanted to be out of school and away from <span style="text-decoration: underline">everyone</span>. After speaking to the teacher and asking that my kid and the hanger-on not be partnered and finding out that it was still happening, I did my own investigation.

Turned out the kid's parent was going through a nasty divorce and custody battle. Poor little thing didn't know whether he was coming or going. And thus his lashing out at mine and his clinging to mine.

So maybe that little one has issues at home. And just loves Adale to death, which is why Adale is the brunt of his/her anger and hurtful words.

Still, I think you should talk to the teacher about how this is affecting Adale and let the teacher know that you're relying on him/her to keep this kid away from Adale. Cause as much as you're a caring mom, Adale is your priority, not the other kid.

It might help. And though it doesn't seem like it, your reassurance of Adale is helping. You'll see...

Well, my brother and I both started 1st grade at 5 and our ages were lied about so there is no soapbox anywhere for me to even try to stand on.

I think his age has to stop being such a major focus. Who even knows he is 5 and why do they know it? Was it a mid-year grade change or something?

I went to a really good kindergarten that had access to all the school reading books so I was many grade levels ahead in reading when I entered school. (I wish they had worked on math and science more, but I digress.) Even in 1st grade, I had to go to a different class for reading and my mother's major concern was my lack of maturity.

Even though I was lying about my age, I don't recall it coming up too often in conversation with my classmates and they weren't that much taller than me either.

Good luck and just try to make that one year of age difference a minor deal for him.

It bothers him so much that he's crying, so no you're not over-reacting. Best to speak to teacher either face to face or by telephone (rather than just a note), to convey your concerns.

Size wise he fits in perfectly.

It seems to be a big thing with age for all of the kids because there is this focus on even the half birthdays yes 4 and a half was a major milestone. \o/

This morning I overheard him telling his dad after we sorted out the issue and reassured him that this kid says he would like to buy his brain (whenever he does the things he is supposed to do) not my fault that I go to the school and talk to the teacher to know how he is doing and areas that need to be worked on we work on it at home... I wish he was a bit antisocial like me so he would only hang with smart people.

go and talk to the teacher about what is happening. If he is crying you are not over reacting.

oh yes it is normal at that age for kids to measure every half birthday quarter birthday etc

I am sure if you speak with the teacher , s/he will address the issue with the other boy.

Dr Dudd ... I go to the school ... I volunteer in the class so they see me around ... even if he is invited to a birthday party I go and stick around ... I do not wish for his father to go hang out at the school though as he will have no shame to pick on a little person and make them really miserable.

Now Nunya your story scares me because it is sounding so much like Adale's... I overheard him telling his daddy this morning that this boy as asked if he can buy his brain (when adale does the correct things in the class) and my sister overheard him asking Adale if he is going to kill himself when she picked him up today... right in front of his mother :whoaa: She did say something to him but I am now going to keep Adale away from him cause that is not healthy.

Sent the teacher a note this morning and she promptly called me when school was out this afternoon and she basically said that is not behavior that will be tolerated so she will address the whole bullying/harassing issue with the entire group tomorrow and she will speak with the child and his parents.
