.. where the "O" word is Obama. The current president of the United States.

Is the teacher allowed her political views in the classroom or not?


Should the teacher be reprimanded? The correct thing to say was "Do not discuss politics in my class" imho

What do you think?

Should the school stop receiving federal funds for supporting a teacher who makes comments like this in her classroom?

edited to add the scenario:
one boy talking to another boy about how he helped on the obama campaign, right before class settle down.

teacher was very stern in her comment

Depends on the class ... do not discuss politics in my class is appropriate. If the discussion is on a relevant issue s/he should keep their trap shut. There are some positions you take only if you can control your personal views on things such as politics, religion and sexual orientation. Yes she should be reprimanded.

For the sake of the children (which is why the school exist in the first place) I would think withholding funding would be wrong. However action should be taken to address the issue.

The teacher de-legitimized the POTUS by her statement. The class went silent after her statement and she did not apologize for it either.

From what I understand the principal will be hearing about it Monday AM.

ahn after he hears about it, i hope he:
1. thanks the person who brings it to his attention
2. calls the teacher into his office
3. asks her what happened
4. tells the teacher what he heard
5. reconcile the 2 sides (and if the fact pattern is as what you wrote above)
6. tell her she was an idiot to do such a thing in front of the kids and tell her not to make such statements (and in that manner) again.
7. send her back to teach her class

btw: mi get that "fact pattern" speak fram the Juris Doctorate that is teaching the class that I am taking while I am on leave. mi supposed to be working on the paper im assigned that due Tuesday, but mi on here iggling

her apologizing (or being made to) creates more problems (usually for the school) than the original comment.
she's a idiot, principal should tell har as much and it should be left at that.

I think personal opinions should not be stated in the classroom. Present the facts of both sides and discuss the merit but not 'old people die off'

she may get fired as there are serious budget cuts going on but I think arrested for treason is a big step dontcha think?

why would it cause more problems? what kind of problems?
would it be better if she apologized to the child who was talking about the POTUS?
