CNN) -- Unemployed, single and apparently fed up with criticism from her mother, a 29-year-old Orangeburg, South Carolina, woman suffocated her two toddlers with her bare hands before strapping them into car seats and submerging her car in a river, authorities said Tuesday.

Shaquan Duley is facing two counts of murder in the deaths of her sons, ages 1 and 2, said Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams. She is set to appear in court Wednesday.

Don't some states did increase the cut off age that you could drop kids off at the hospital/station/firehouse ?

In all of this I wonder where their Dad is, I strongly suspect that there was no support financial or otherwise.....but dang just leave them someplace. Still cannot wrap around my head how a Mom could kill her kids.....temporary insanity just don't wash with me anyway, let me not judge her

I think what that person who was quoted in the article meant was something like <span style="font-style: italic">who knows what state she was in to do such a horrible thing.</span>

C'mon now parents. Let's be honest. Sometimes our children's demands strike something way deep in our minds that we feel we could just strangle them. We even <span style="font-style: italic">say</span> it. But we don't <span style="font-style: italic">mean</span> it and we surely won't do that. In fact, we perish the thought even as we <span style="font-style: italic">think</span> it. We have coping mechanisms in place to help us. These coping skills are either learned from our parents or caregivers, or from our core beliefs, or from instinct even.

But some people do not have these coping skills. They cannot see beyond the immediate. They are mentally incapacitated. I am not excusing what this mother did. I am just saying that, but for the grace of learning coping skills, there go many of us.

My friend told me her story almost a year ago ... her husband traveled a lot for work and she was taking care of 2 toddlers and an infant. one night after dropping him off at the airport all the way home and when she reach home she figured she couldnt deal with it any more and was going to fill the tub and put her boys in and join them ... She called her mom when she realised that she was thinking of murdering her children and committing suicide... turns out she was suffering from PPD and she is still on meds almost 20 years later.
