my friend wanted to be child free but her husband was the one who handled the birth control so between that, rhythm method there was bound to be an oops! She always said her husband was a great husband but a lousy father so never wanted any. I must call her to see if her perception has changed.

first off that means the 2011 list need fi stawt.

Although mi like plan them things fi others and mi no believe in cack up foot with soso ooman I hate them for myself. If we are good close friends then someone can get the baby something if they want but of course you always end up with all who u no like buying you things :sigh: mi si a fren organizing hers but mi just couldnt do it as it feel like begging.

With Adale co-workers planned it and I went (hmmm I went because my sis said to go ahead never really wanted one)

With Aden a friend wanted to plan one but was smart enough to talk to my sis cause I really dont think I would have gone (we dont have that many friends in common) she then came and visited and brought a gift card ... gyal fraid fi hold baby it no funny I was happy to see her. The church people them was not to be deterred... them claim them is mi family and one of them beg mi to let them have it so them can get to go buy cute baby thing good thing bout that I am paying for his passport this am and not with my money and he has nuff nice clothes up to 2 rhatid year old and while I was bored with the opening of gifts etc they all seemed happy.

My conclusion showers are not about the new mother/baby is about the people in her life so low them FT.

Well since everyone could not wait for me to get pregnant I could not escape the baby shower.

It was a unisex party, not lying over 100 people. It did nice thou nuff food, drinks, music, stories and laughter.

They had a traditional one at work, got gift card and stuff and more stuff. Had to give away most of the clothes because most were new born and he weight in at 8.5.

i think my madda had a semi one after likklegen was like couple mths and we visited. I had to lug all that stuff back with me up north on the plane (see wah mi mean by foofool )

Why all the baby shower hate? I don't have any children but if people wanted to throw me one that would be fine with me. When y'all are invited to a baby shower is that how oonu really feel dat oonu 'financing di person's breeding?&quot; is it really such a bother? Not a celebration of new life? celebration of a milestone in a person's life? why oonu so curmodgeon? why people can't show oonu likkle kindness in life and oonu just accept it...........

I'm not big on parties in general. just a quirk in my somewhat anti-social personality perhaps.

CB dat excuse not going to fly with me cause I have been told I am the most antisocial person folks have ever met ( I am trying to change though).... But when it comes to friends and family I have no problem with events like that.

Work farewell is a whole different cup of tea...me tell dem mi leaving dem fi a reason so dem can keep dem party....

well i guess another excuse is that me did think dem fool (*for me*...i have nothing against attending someone else shower) and me neva want none ...sorry me nuh have a better excuse

thankfully the people round me did know me well enough, and never bother force the issue.

I ended up having two showers..one at work and with friends and family. The one at work was a huge surprise. Di people dem bawl out SURPRISE as mi a walk in to what I thought was a meeting . I swear I was going have di baby right there how mi friten. Was not expecting it all But I learned in due time sey a soh dah place dey stay …..all di man dem get big showa to.

Like you FT I didn’t really “expect to have one”… but my friends all decided to throw one for me and they wouldn’t take no for an answer. I wouldn’t go as far as to say people are “financing yuh breeding” as yuh put it …this is their way of supporting or celebrating your “baby to be” . Now if I should have a second child, I am not so sure if mi would want to go troo all a dat again. Come in like dat a stale business pan di secan round

It is not hate. It is the silly games and this format that one has to follow that is annoying.

Personally I like to give gifts when the baby is born and when talking to the parent to get a sense of the baby, this way it is more personalized when choosing something to welcome baby to the world

weh it seh daht wi hate baby showers (well except for CB and Skelly)
most of wi convey that wi neva like di foofool game daht go along with the traditional showers.
i had a blast at my &quot;shower&quot; and i loved opening the bounty that we received.

as for other people's shower....i attend them. i usually leave when the presents/game playing begins.

everything is not for everybody. Even if u trying to be kind and generous and so forth, sometimes u need to take the person's personality quirks into account.

I did the traditional christening (which is not really my thing either) because it meant a lot to my mother.
