the woman came up to the school (unannounced) at the request of another teacher. ascarding to her she decided to "stop in" to see me (and the rest of the teachers) as well. she had her son's grades in her hand. grades are electronic, so parents can log on 24/7 and access their kid's grades.
i wasnt in the mood to see her (or her kid), but as she was there...i told her to come in. i did the "schpeal" and told her about her kid's "achievements and challenges", but I am not one that "colour coats" well and she kept pressing me..."Ms. ILP, I just get a feeling that you aren't telling me everything. You know...I need you to tell me. I want my kid (who she has named Millennium
) to succeed. blah-blah." Then she tried the "She is black and I am black, so you can tell me" thingy...
I said ok and then let her know that I thought her son was revolting.
I went on to let her know that her son (if she doesn't quickly nip it) will get severely injured, as he will have tee-d the wrong person off.
She started to cry.
sigh....
ETA: before you ask...she has raised a prick and he acts like how he has been allowed (by her) to act. in my tenure (and trust that my tenure has been longer than my students have been alive), i've only written a handful (as in ONE hand) of behaviour referrals. i've written 2 on her kid already. di new bakrah mussi tell har as much....

i am not of the belief that everything is a "disorder" and needs meds, doctor, counseling, therapy, etc....
i am of the belief that you train a child (when they come out of the womb) and if you don't...then dont be surprised when life (to be read: jail or someones gun) does it for you. this child needs his [censored] kicked. period.
mom/dad never did it and i am going to wager my tenure that someone will do it before the end of this school year. it is just a shame that the person that brings the overdue pointy reckoning to Millennium won't get the credit for providing a public service. the last time i had the displeasure of meeting someone like this kid, i made the same wager. unfortunately, i wasn't wrong. that kid's name was claudel. a group of boys cracked his skull after school. i understand claudel is still in rehab for his injuries. 2 of the boys that did it are on probation...they never caught the others.

he is almost sadistic

he only responds to people that have gone off on him...and then he "is the injured party"
he sneaks to do nothing...he is rather vulgar and "in-your-face" about everything he does.
i am praying that my reputation for being a no nonsense kind of teacher; combined with his mom's need for him to "get A's and B's" will make him drop my class.
after i told her what i thought of her son, she said (to me), "you dont hold any punches do you?" i told her, "when pressed, no." she then asked me if there was anything her kid can do to bring up his grade before end of term, "can he do xtra credit?" 
i told her "teachers like myself get annoyed with kids and their parents when they ask for xtras before they've done something with the originals given them." I went on to ask, "do you normally ask for a second helping of pie before you've finished the first?" she chuckled, shook her head and then said, "I was simply asking, as I thought you'd work with me." i came back with, "I'd be happy to work with you if/when you enroll in my course."
Her eyes welled up and then she told me to have a nice day.
in the meantime...her "little smchookums" Millennium cyan mash ants, sake ah how im innocent."
eta: sigh....of course, it'll be all my fault and i'll ultimately have to be more understanding, accommodating, excusing, blind eye turning, blah-blah-blah...

i dont want him in my class either, skelly. not because i wouldnt enjoy the day-to-day dance of showing him how much of a [censored] (yes, he called me that to my face) i can be. oh, also (ascarding to im), i was gonna "make him bang me one day". i just worry that he will push one of the kids (who are exercising the patience of Job) to their limits one day. I worry that when one of the kids snap that it'll be in my class and that becomes a whole other can of worms. I am sure he and his mother will turn it around and make things everyone else's fault. My students (minus Mr. Millennium) respect me enough to not go after him while I am in the area, but i need them to respect themselves enough to not try anything even when I am not around (not that Millennium deserves the courtesy). If they give in and do the public a service, it will ruin them in the long run.

If she came to you with those questions about her child's behavior and she pressed you on the matter until you were honest with her, then I would believe that she <span style="font-weight: bold">knows about or at least suspects</span> her son's personality problems and she is worried about it. I think you did the right thing by telling her. I would further offer her some resources or strongly suggest that she seeks psychological testing for that child.Comment

Interesting, perspective, Gungo. Not one that has escaped me, though. I actually stayed at school and read his records (yes, mi naah nutten fi do...
) and it is mentioned numerous times (actually all over his records) that he has displayed his behavior throughout his schooling. However, from what I gather, Mom has done the "Oh, no, you people have it wrong. Not my little Schmookums" routine. I guess with the fact that he is now in HS (where their is always a bigger kid and we call the police first and then ask questions later when things pop off...I guess she is trying to do something about it. Too little to late? Well...I have my own "issues" with parents/education/consistancy/etc. To which I get "ILP, you dont have kids, so you dont understand" and now that Hunter is here, "When Hunter [fill in the blank with whatever] then come back and tell us how it is"
Anyhow...it seems that Mom was made to come in and talk with our Dean of Students. Mr. Mellenium has been put on a contract. The contract includes mandatory behaviour monitoring and mandatory grade monitoring. He will remain in my class and be reevaluated at the end of the semester for changes. The contract was signed by both mom and kid...with a comment at the bottom that she was not "in agreement with automatic calling of the police PRIOR to her notification, but I will agree with it as I am being told it's the law" <<< eediat ooman
