Sarah is becoming increasingly rude....last nite she sprayed out an entire can of saline spray....she has been taking my things and bringing them downstairs into her playroom....she is eating things without asking....the last straw for me tonight was her going into my bag and eating an entire bag of Halls I had....not the regular Halls...it is the more fruity one....she knows it is medicine and that she needs to ask...

what is the appropriate action of discipline at that age?

that is a hard one. punishment needs to be appropriate for the individual. what works for one at one age may not be appropriate for another at the same age. how old is she again

She needs a reward chart for the times she is caught being good as well as a consequence chart .

you can probably use tickets that you can give and take away ..
10 tickets can be traded in for a toy or a video
it helps with her counting too

you know Skelly my cousin daughter is four, started kinder this September and she doing the exact stuff that you say sara is doing and not listening. Since she start school is like someone else take over this kids body/mind.

Her Dad give her time out take away toys she go back and do the same things all over again. I saw her Mom grab her and pinch her the other day so now she scared of the Mom and will only do stuff like that if she home alone with her Dad, the abuse is no good and have told her Mom my cousin this when kids scared of you is not good.

edited to add she is very fiesty and chat back all the time it not funny but I have to laugh at some of her comments

Skells as it relates to food in my house I have always tried to help his independence so the older he gets there are foods/snacks in his reach that he can eat without asking.

As it relates to the other stunts/actions... what has been your typical reaction... could she be trying to get your attention? Does she have a very strict teacher so the classroom isn't "fun" so she is doing everything to have "fun" at home?

Twiney she is sneaking behind my back and doing these things so I do not think it is an attention thing...I like her to have some degree of independence but going into the pantry and eating all 10 packs of the Barbie gummies behind my back is not my idea of independence.

Whenever she gets caught she runs and hides... This tells me that she is very much aware of what she is doing.


Kia I like the idea of a reward chart. I did it when I was potty training her and it worked then so I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

I think Twiney is suggesting that you give her some measure of independence by putting the snacks that you're comfortable with her eating where she can reach them by herself.....put the barbie whatmacallthems way up yonder where she can't reach them.

tell her again why she caan just eat things especially medicine without your knowledge. (

my sister called it the naughty corner and put the time out chair there ...with a timer..

Dem used to ring mi ears (yipe)...you know, wid dem big old adult fingers...mek mi bawl out in agony....but soon afta, mi dweet all over again, but duck out of the way, `cause ring ears hott bad.
Suh, it was their way of mekking mi Lissen.

Not really recomending it as a solution in these modern kids have rights days, else you get reported for child abuse.

I am not opposed to spanking...she has been spanked before for similar offenses yet she continues so obviously it does no good...

she has a naughty wall and to some extent it works....whenever she is having a tantrum i let her stay there longer than the 3-4 minutes until she decides that she is calm and ready to apologize....
