I have a question for anyone of you Adoptee Parents. How long was the TPR process from when it was filed to when it was completed? I am told that it takes several months but not exactly how many. For us, if it was filed when it was ordered, that has been 3 months and we have not heard a word.

Also, do I have a right to contact the courts and find out the status? Who do I ask? I have not gotten any info from the Case Manager other than "I don't know". I don't want to seem over eager, but I do want to know where we stand.

it was 6 months before we were able to formalize the adoption

do you have an adoption attorney? you will need one and they may be able to explain the process to you

you will eventually get a birth certificate - just like you birthed her - you can even change her name

My understanding is that when the adoption process comes up BCS will supply the Attorney and I won't have to pay anything. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img] That is a blessing because I know that can get pretty costly. I just don't know when the TPR process will be done or what the status is. I have met the Adoption case worker for my agency but not the one for DFCS.

Yes, I will definitely change her name but not drastically. She has 2 middle names- Angel and Denise. We will drop the Denise and add my last name to her's (hyphenated). I will never let her lose her identity. She may one day want to seek out her family if we don't find them during this process. I can't deny her that.

Thank you! I'm just glad it is still here so that I can update you guys and still get info while we are going thru this process. God has been really good to us through it all!

Thank you! She is a winner indeed. I never thought I could enjoy a little girl so much. I dearly wanted to foster a boy, but what did I know?! God had another plan! Thanks for asking! Kimmy got a lot of toys from her DFCS Case Manager and still to come from her Case Manager at the agency. I don't do Xmas. For her, that would be every month because she is constantly getting things. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70367-help.gif[/img]

As far as updates, I heard some old news. It seems my "baby's mama" is pregnant again. Or so she was the last time someone heard from her in May or June. I always said she was probably out there making another one for me or a brother for Kimmy, but it was a guesstimation. Well, seems I was right. Only since she is on the run, no one knows what kind of care she is getting or if she followed through with the pregnancy. It's sad. I would be more than willing to take on the next one if I can but who knows if the poor baby is here or not.

Still waiting for the results of the TPR. Kimmy is doing good. She's only 18 months but is already into her terrible twos. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70368-hoppingmad.gif[/img] AARRGGHH!! She is Mommy's little Angel when we are home alone, but at Daycare and just recently at Church, I don't know who I have beside me. Then when I feed her, she becomes a different baby. But she's still my sweet Pooh Pooh. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70377-loveeyes.gif[/img] She's learning quite a few words. On the phone, there is only 3 things she will say. "Hello", "I Love You" and "Goodbye". She sounds so cute. I put her on her potty and she looked at me like, "So what's your reason for me being on this thing?!" She promptly got up and went in her diaper some time later. We'll keep trying! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70367-help.gif[/img]

Thank you keesha. I really hope this is a dream come true. It is encouraging that I saw what you wrote just now. I have been feeling a little paranoid today because my Mom told me she dreamt I called and told her they took Kimmy away from me because they found someone that wanted her. Possibly a family member. She said I was very distraught and upset with it. I can only imagine, or not. It made me apprehensive because I do not know the status of the TPR on her parents and while it is still lingering, there could be a chance that someone, possibly her unknown Father, could come out of the woodwork. I can't say anything bad about it if he does, but it would be devastating for me.

In Atlanta now, there is a teenage young man who is petitioning the courts because he fathered a child with a young girl when they were both 16 and she decided to give the baby up for adoption without his consent. Apparently, she did not need it. Since the contraversy has arisen, the family sent the baby back, and now a Pro Ball player is trying to adopt him with the young Father at the courts begging for his child. I don't know the state of Kimmy's Father, but so far he has not came forth and who knows if he knows about her or would want her if he did?? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70384-praying.gif[/img]

Just keep praying for us that all things will work in our favor and we can get our adoption going successfully. Oh well...I am getting a little worried now. Kimmy is doing very well. She is progressing so wonderfully. Her Daycare is astounded at how advanced she is for a 19 month old. She "graduated" from the baby room to the big kids room before her time because she was the only one who could talk and interact and more babies came. She is healthy as a 3 year old and is into her terrible twos. But still, I worry because of the system.

God knows that I am not out to take her from her family, but in essence, she does not have family outside of mine. In the 9 months that we have been together or several months before then, she has not had 1 family member to ask for or about her. Her teenage Mom was said to be pregnant and still on the streets in May/June. So there is possibly a sibling for Kimmy out there. Or not. Being on the run without medical attention, who knows if the child was born. She definitely cannot take care of 2 babies.

Yet and still, the DFCS dept is defying the court order to terminate the parental rights and dragging their feet to obey the Judge's decree. Early Sept., I was recuperating from an accident when the DFCS guy called to inform me of a court date on the court day. I knew automatically that he did not tell me in advance for a reason. The Judge wanted to see Kimmy and I and he did not want it to happen. He still decreed for the TPR to happen. But it has been 4 months and he claims there is no update and he may have to refile it. This is ridiculous!

I can't seem to find out whether I am able to contact the courts and find out the status myself and see when he actually filed it because I am told that if a Case Manager does not want to file the TPR as ordered, they will drag their feet to buy time and then claim that it was done months ago. I just don't know. Then we have another Panel Review next month. Sigh...

Anybody know my recourse? I don't want to seem too eager to adopt but I do not want Kimmy to have to suddenly be snatched away and thrown in with complete strangers when she has a stable and safe home with me. Everyday when we come home, she knocks on the door (knock! knock!) or rings the bell, then we come in and declare "Kimmy's Home"!! She loves to walk in like she really owns the place. Her "Auntie" just brought her a truck load of kitchenette toys tonight. I just can't fathom seeing her leave all of this.
