I finally got a placement a week ago and what a change it has been! Free paper burn for sure!
After 7 months and half a dozen or more almost placements, I got a little 10 month old Princess Kimmy about a week ago. She is a beautiful busy baby. You never know how much you value your free lazy days until they are gone. But I love this little darling already. Even though she came sick and congested and I caught whatever she has and I have had a bad cold and Laryngitis since last Tuesday. Oy vey!
It's amazing how this child has come into my home and has been here a full week and I still have no clue as to her background. Unfortunately her Mom is also in Foster care and is only 15, but hopefully there will be reunification plans in the works. She came straight from the Daycare with a diaper bag full of empty bottles leaking in the bag, 3 milk-wet diapers in the bag and a smile. A beautiful chocolate mocha smile that stole my heart instantly!
The Foster Mother before her received about $200 stipend to buy her things, so we packed up and went across town to get them. Cho! I got a big black bag full of clothes for a 3-6 and 6-9 month old! 15 or so diapers. 5 cans of milk. A dirty walker. A carrier for a newborn and a stroller (best thing in the bunch!). Needless to say, the money was NOT spent on the baby. There was not a drop of medicine for the cold, only laxative drops for her constipation. I was shocked. How can you have a precious baby in your care for a month and have nothing to show for what you did for her??? I politely took up Kimmy and went home.
Saturday morning, we found 1 jumpsuit she could wear and we went to Church. She had a good time jumping and clapping. Everybody took to her instantly. Sunday we spent several hours shopping. She got about 10 outfits, lotions, creams, diapers, milk, cereal, odds and ends. I already had jar food ready. Monday she got 2 pairs of shoes. She came with only 1 pair of pink sandals. We got hairbows, bibs (teething and spitting), more clothes. Friday we got a new car seat. Set me back about $300 but she's worth it and hopefully, the Agency will reimburse me for it.
We got her in Daycare Tuesday. That's the day I lost my voice and had to leave work early. Have not been back since. I took a 12 week leave from my 2nd job. It was pulling teeth to get a Daycare to accept a Foster child without the money up front and to accept the amount that DFCS will pay. And we still have not seen a Doctor because DFCS has not sent over her medical history nor her Medicaid card. Some clinics will not see her with just her medicaid number. I am going to put her on my benefit plan quickly because apparently FosterChild means "slow payment" to some Doctors. It's a darn shame. She deserves much better.
Just wanted to share that with Seveen and some of the others who have communicated with me on this Foster Parenting quest. Anyone in the Atlanta area know of a good Doctor I can get her lined up with, please let me know.
