Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. I am so glad to be able to make a difference in a baby's life. Kimmy is such a sweet baby. I can't help but give her the best that God has given me for her. She also bring me joy.

It looks like she and I will have a long time together. I found out today that her Mom will not be at our meeting on Wednesday because she has ran away from her Foster parent. I'm not sure how long they knew this or when they found out, but she has not seen Kimmy in a long time. It's very sad. But Kimmy has me and her loss seems to be my gain for the moment. I do wish for her to be with her biological family because they need to be enjoying this beautiful bundle of joy. But God knows what is best for her and if being with me is His plan for her life, so be it. She has been in this world for 10 months which is long enough for any adult relative to have sought custody of her.

Actually, they asked me what I received when I got Kimmy because I told them what I had to purchase immediately for her. Diapers, clothes, shoes, etc. We are supposed to show receipts for what we buy in order to be reimbursed. But at the initial placement, they are given $200 for a child just taken out of a home. Apparently, these vouchers are given when you first receive the child and no receipts are requested. Nor do they come back to inspect what was bought.

Ironically, "I" have to supply receipts before I can get $150 for what I had to buy her. The rest, I have to eat, which is no problem. She's more than worth it. People do not realize that Foster Parenting is "voluntary". The money they give is from DFCS to take care of the wards of the state. It's not a payment, although most people use it as such.

It was not a hard process. I went thru 7 weeks of classes. 3 1/2 hours every Tuesday night. The paperwork was the most tedious. You have to give every private and personal detail of your life and financial status. They are very strict and concerned about who they are placing these children in the home with due to the reasons some are being placed and the amount of people who have devious reasons for fostering.

After classes end, they have 2 home studies. The first one is to do an indepth interview largely based on what you included in your paperwork/application. The second visit is to make sure your home is childproof and you have adequate space and provisions for a child. They are not looking for a model home with fine furnishings. Just a clean and safe home. Everyone in the home over 16 years old, has to go thru different clearings and/or classes. Protocol stuff.

It's not a difficult thing to undertake once you set your mind to it. I hope you do consider it because there are a lot of children that need a good home and someone to care for them. You can do like I chose. Foster to adopt. If Kimmy comes up for adoption, I will be the first candidate to adopt her and you know I will! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img]

You know, I told my friend yesterday that I can not get emotionally attached to her because I don't know what relatives will come out of the woodwork or if the Mom will reappear. Everyone keeps telling me she "looks like me" [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] and that I have a baby now. I am trying to stay focused because all the training, and common knowledge keeps reminding me, that one day, she can be gone and I cannot allow myself to be depressed and hurt as if someone has taken "my" child. I'm just enjoying what I have with her right now and staying focused.

Thanks for asking! My case worker called me this morning and said she ran into the same issues that I had. No one in my city/county would accept her with the same excuses. Not accepting new Medicaid patients or the Doctor has to be on her card, rah rah.

She did find one not far from where we are, in a different county though. We have an appointment set for tomorrow. Hallelujah! Not being able to give her anything for her cold because I don't know her medical history, has been tough on me. I can't give her something and she may be allergic to it. I did put a chewable Vitamin C in her milk and it dissolved, so she's getting that. Cold is getting better anyhow. It will be good to get an idea of her general health although she appears to be a healthy thriving baby. Her only issue is that she will not sleep in the daytime beyond 30-40 minutes per nap, which is twice a day. She sleeps from 8 or 9pm until 8 or 9am if I let her. No complaints from me. Hey! I've been waiting for you to come in here. How's it going Lady? Long time since I went to Kool Runnings up Memorial Drive way. Don't go on that side too often. Especially since they set up shop in Northlake Mall.

Yeah, I don't know what the other Foster Mother was up to but it's okay. She told me she had to let Kimmy go because she was "too expensive". The money DFCS give was not enough for her income. And, she's buying a new house. So she wants a child with special needs that have larger per diems. Yeah, the Mommy is only 15 and on the run. Probably caught up in this and that. If all goes to termination of parental rights and no relatives come up, I will consider adopting Kimmy.

I just got a call from the Agency asking if I wanted a 7 month old baby boy. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] Mercy! That was what I wanted. A boy! But she did not know I already have a baby.
