If this was the first time this teacher or any teacher at this school had taken the action to staple a disciplinary note to the child's shirt, then the teacher was wrong.

The mother was also wrong to report this to the press. No need to bring out the heavy artillery to kill a gnat. This unfortunate situation could have been handled with a meeting with the teacher and the principal followed by a letter to the Board of Education about this practice of discipline.

So what if the child felt embarrassed or even ridiculed by his classmates? Yeah, it happens and it builds character. The mother's role here is to help the child with strategies to cope or handle this situation at school with his classmates.
