Quote....[i]Jamaica can be competivite with exports of certain products tied to "Brand Jamaica", like Puma and red stripe are doing and also some other farrin rum company (i.e. the ad about the island rush hour traffic) but I admit we do not posses an absolute advantage in reagrds to rum and cigars.[i/].......
I agree with brand 'Jamaica, but vwhatever we produce will have to be distinctive. brands are as captivating as the advantage they claim is realized by the market.
Just producing brand jamaica is not enough, there must be a distinctive advantage with the products.
brand Jamaica is in demand because of what Jamaicans aabroad has done to create the awareness of the country as a place of distinction.
we have produced the most expensive coffee, for years, yet most americans that drink coffee never know and still don't. Brand loyalty is about superior quality or services in whatever we do,brand promotion is only about making pe9ple aware about that superiority.
The problem is that those who are in control doe asnoit yet know that. they are ath this very moment killing the goose that will lay that goilden egg. That goose is the ordinary jamaican people. the business sector take every opportunity to denigrate the workers of Jamaica,so as to justify their low wage. They complain that workers steals and they have to sp[en on security. the t=reasoon why workers steal is because they are not paid a living wage.It is the responsibillity of the employer to utilize whatever technology ro strategy to saaure that their workers are paid appropriate wages or they will loose what they think they are saving by paying them less.
That is applied economics,a subject that is sadly lacking in the jamaican business sector.
