8 journalism trainer positions in Ghana (6 month
postings) and 10 journalism trainer positions across
sub-Saharan Africa (8 month postings) with Journalists
for Human Rights (JHR). Please distribute widely.
8 Positions: Journalism Trainer (in Ghana, 6 months)
Description: Eight Journalism Trainers will be hired
to work in JHR's office in Ghana for 6 months.
Applicants must have Canadian citizenship or be a
permanent resident. Selected Trainers will be based in
Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi or Tamale.
Of the eight Trainers, one will have newspaper
experience, five will have radio experience, and two
will have TV experience. Trainers' work will vary, but
will be focused on working with JHR's Ghanaian media
partners to build the capacity of the Ghanaian media
to report on human rights issues. This includes field
producing, conducting informal seminars and providing
other training to local journalists. They will also
work with JHR's Expert Journalism Trainers to run
workshops. JHR's Country Director in Ghana will manage
their work.
Selected trainers will also have the opportunity to
participate in a cross-Canada speaking tour of
universities about their experiences upon their
return.
Qualifications:
· A journalism degree or relevant experience
· Strong working experience as a journalist
· Strong knowledge of human rights
· International experience or strong,
demonstrable interest
· Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural
environment
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Excellent written and communication skills
· Fluency in English
Remuneration: $1000 per month living stipend, plus
flight and visa.

Start Date: July 15th, 2006. Successful participants
will be required to attend a three-day pre-departure
orientation in Ottawa or Toronto at some point before
their start-date.

International Program (YPI)

sub-Saharan Africa for a period of eight months.
Applicants must have Canadian citizenship or be a
permanent resident and be between the ages of 19-29.
Applicants must not have participated in any prior
Youth Employment Strategy (YES) programs.
The positions are based in Kenya (print), South Africa
(print), Nigeria (print), Ghana (print), Uganda
(print), Sierra Leone (radio and television), Tanzania
(print or radio), Senegal (print) and Namibia (print).
