Coastline erosion in Westmoreland poses serious threat
There are rising concerns about the continued erosion of the coastline between Whitehouse and Belmont in Westmoreland.
Councillor for the Whitehouse division, Sylvester Anglin, says urgent steps are needed to address the rapid erosion of the coastline.
Speaking with our news centre, Councillor Anglin said letters have been sent to the relevant agencies but to date nothing has been done.
He said the problem of erosion should be addressed urgently or it could pose a serious threat to lives in various communities.
He says the Parish Council is to embark on community meetings in order to seek support for an interim measure to stem the erosion now taking place.
Councillor Anglin says efforts are also underway for the formation of a non governmental organization to begin discussions with the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica for funding to deal with the problem of coastline erosion in the parish.
