Jamaican firm brings new jobs!
e-Services CEO Patrick Casserly (l) with NDC’s Wayne Vitalis at a press conference to introduce the new company
By the end of this year one company would have created at least 400 jobs for unemployed St Lucians. e-services Limited, a Jamaican based company, has announced its entry into the St Lucian market. The company has become one of the world’s leading providers of offshore call centers and back-office operations (BPO).
Said company CEO, Patrick Casserly, “Unlike a lot of other companies, we don’t do telemarketing, we don’t do debt collection. We don’t call people, they call us.” However, the public reaction to the employment opportunities has so far been poor. Perhaps one reason may be that people perceive the company as a telemarketing company.
“As a company, e-services sees its employees as its most important asset. Employees are the company,” assured Mr Casserly at a press briefing at the Cara Suites Hotel on Wednesday. He cited e-Services Jamaica Limited as an example. e-Services began in Jamaica with a staff complement of 35 that has grown to 1,500 employees. Casserly also listed several benefits such as scholarship opportunities, health and life insurance and summer programs for the children of employees in Jamaica. Employees have never been laid off, he said, and e-Services invests a tremendous amount in training staff.
“We are a brand name in Jamaica. We want to be a brand name in St Lucia. We intend to prove ourselves in this market,” he added. “The whole idea is to create a Pan-Caribbean footprint,” he answered to the question of whether the company had plans for expansion. CEO of the National Development Corporation (NDC), Wayne Vitalis, who was also in attendance, expressed his pleasure at e-Services’ establishment in St Lucia. “It’s not just a matter of providing jobs but providing sustainable jobs,” he stated. Mr Vitalis also reiterated that this was a great employment opportunity for locals.
Both Casserly and Vitalis appealed to the public to take advantage of the employment opportunities that are being offered as the company has invested an initial US$1 million in St Lucia. An e- Services trade fair is scheduled for May 20 to 21, where approximately 120 persons should be recruited. The minimum requirements for employment are four GCSE passes inclusive of English and Mathematics. The company also hopes to embark on an aggressive marketing campaign in St Lucia.
