Gone are the days when only knowledge of mixing mortar and knowing people will get you a job on the site. The contractors who hire these local sub-contractors have certain internal controls for insurance/compliance etc reasoans, such as hiring individuals that are licensed in certain areas and have continuing technical training, while we might have the willing people, if you are not properly certified, these contractors are not even going to sneeze in your direction. H.E.A.R.T is helping with the training of workers for the ALCAN 1 billior dollar expansion, so at least some local groups are being proactive. It is also on the Jamaican worker to be pro-active in getting this training, and cant wait till work start and show up at site a beg one bly, soon come attitude will not work.

yuh keep biggin up ALCAN..yuh nuh kow sey dem pull out fo Jamaica couple years now...dem sell out to di bredda Mark Rich(a so him name? - di one clinton did gi a pardon) and di company goes by WINDALCO now.

di expansion is being done by ALCOA (down in clarendon).

I just notice this..
I can tell u where they are getting jobs - Bahamas..plenty ja construction workers are here, some car mechanics too
