project management

I saw on another site where this woman had a few degrees (Bachelors in General Studies and an Associate in something)
and she was having a hard time finding a job (USA).So the posters were advising her, and someone mentioned that downsizing companies let go Veeps and are hiring project managers instead.

Does anyone know about this?

could be true depending on the industry...and if they are downsizing..then it would make sense for them to hire Independent Contractors or Project Managers...or outsource the position (not necessarily to Asia)...

anyway ...it depends on where she lives too...haven't heard of much downsizing going on since year before last...

i'm a project manager - the last 4-5 years i've been bouncing around from one company and project to another - sometime i have to wait 3 months or so to find another opportunity - but - hey - i don't like to work every day any way - and i've managed to make a living - and take 2 trips to jamaica a year

i think companies are hiring more "contract" personnel so they can let them go without it looking like downsizing

my last project - they let 2000 people go in one day - but we were all contractors and not employees

well usually it mean she salt...the firm usually does not provide insurance coverage..and SS is deducted..not sure though...back in the days ...she would get a 1099 from the company and it would be up to her to pay the taxes because some companies don't deduct the income taxes...

but...today...sometimes "consultants" can be considered Project managers...some companies put them on payroll and provide insurance...guess it all depends on the firm and their HR policy...
