Hello All,

I am relocating to Jamaica from the US. Can anyone tell me about the job market out there?

I currently work for a large firm here in the US. I even noticed that some of the companies I used to work for in the US are out in Jamaica.

Is it realistic to think that I can continue to make the same amount of money in Jamaica as I do in the US if not more?


I'm in the Marketing/Advertising industry.....

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Honestly? No...that's probably not realistic. Labour -skilled and unskilled tends to be cheaper in JA.

I don't know much about the marketing field however..so, sorry i can't give you more insight

Realistically? I'd say no. The highest paid job I saw in my field (legal secretary/admin etc) was a job going in Kingston with a foreign aid agency. The wages converted into less than US$300 per week (gross - before tax), and that was by far the highest paid job I'd seen for that sort of work.

Cops's wages aren't much over US$100 per week. At some stage I saw a run-down of salaries for government ministers, accountants and similar. In some cases I'd earnt more myself as a secretary in other countries. One of my relatives in executive-level government, but not a minister & not in JA, earns much, much more than most JA government ministers do.

All up, I'd say you'd be very lucky. But then, I might not have found the right data to check.

as coolbeans said unless tyour are in upper management you will not be able to make as much..however if you are qualified to get a good management type job in the private sector you can do very well (I know quite a few ppl who are making inthe US$80-100K range.)
