Isn't this ultimately where our salvation lies?
Why should it be cheaper in Singapore, China, and Mexico? How can Switzerland and the USA where taxes, emoluments and health cost so high able to afford high-tech industries.

the actual labour cost might not be higher..but th advantage is not significant enough to make them move operations.

some place with already established infrastructure will still attract manufacturing because of the level of the infastructure and the turnkey type move available.


we dotn have the required pool of technical expertise availabel to attract any significan amount fo hightech business.
why woudl you move your business to jamaica when every time you need an analyst, engineer or somthign like that you have to relocate them form abroad.

i think that is why they have tried to focus on the type of industry which requires less infrastructure and a shorter traiing period.

Who said anything about moving business even as attractive as that is?

Most of these countries with High-Tech Industries and net consumers of high-Tech products, they need widgets to complete or design the products that they make or assemble.

The machines, robots and R&D processes need spare parts. Why are we not providing the world with widgets?

Is industry and Manufacturing alien to Jamaica?
Did we not have a healthy manufacturing environment for decades before and since Independence?

So we are going to rest on our laurels and say Jamaicans are dumb, we do not have the technical know-how to sustain a high-tech industrial environment?

What of our future then?
Are the usual posts about Jamaicans returning home to build Jamaica and our economy taking off just a lot of verbiage?
