During the 1980s and early 90s, there were a number data entry companies operating on outsource contracts in Jamaica. Most were doing contract jobs for US companies working on billings, scripts from court cases, mail in coupons/rebate tickets, credit card processing. Some were documents classified as "Confidential".
What happened to all these data entry companies? I used to work at one when I just came out of high school and had to hit the job market before getting into college. The working condition was somewhat okay but the pay was very low....no union representation. They provided incentives, which was based on typing speed aka keystrokes. From those days I learned how to type with my eyes closed without missing a beat.
Coming into the early 1990s outsource jobs went on a decline. What happened? Jamaica politics? The companies looking outsource services moved their data entry kiosks to other countries? Always wondered what happened.
