Today is the first day..

..of my freedom from being a slave to 9-5.

Starting working as a contract Administrator..set my owns hours, pick and choose who I want to work for. It felt so good to wake up this morning not rushing around getting ready, etc.

Well..I was really unhappy. I was there everyday doing a job that wasn't fulfilling. I just didn't want to get up EVERY SINGLE MORNING going there and stressing myself out. so I went to Human Resource and made a proposal for them to hire me as a contract worker. I would fill in as a temp for when employees or on vacation or out sick or if projects need extra help.

Are you paid as an independent contractor via 1099 or via W2 where they manage your taxes for you?

most employers have a minimum number of hours you need to be on the books to be eligible for a full boat of benefits...usually at least 30.

since she will still be getting a w-2...she is technically still an employee.

the federal government has a 20 point test that determines what is a bonafide independent contractor and what is an employee. these labor laws were designed to prevent employers from taking advantage of employees in areas like over time etc.

typically a bonafide contractor:

provides their own work supplies
a business card and or letterhead
other clients they perform the same work for
pay their own taxes
is self directed in their work

among other things...

I decide when I work
I can have one more client if I choose
I go on vacation when i like, etc.

According to the company, I am a contract worker
