VZ spun dem off and they have been bumping ahead -- one guy has been working on the billing transition over a year nowIf you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.

Re: anyone here from hawaii
Nope. But I have a friend who lives on Maui.
Her biggest complaint is the travelling OUT of Hawaii. 6 hours flying just to get to California. Then another 7 to the east coast.
Other than that they love the life there.

Re: anyone here from hawaii
yep, count on at LEAST 30-35% more for basic COLA. Very costly to live there - it's an island...so a finite amount of land, and therefore a finite amount of living space. Don't even THINK about buying a house, a condo might be possible if u willin to pay 400-K for 1-2 bedrooms. Apartments not cheap neither -
public schools are 'OK', private schools are excellent - Barack went to Punahou; one of the fanciest ones, and the education he got there, matched that. so-- an unparalleled education can be had, if you willin to pay for it.
the social climate, however - is THE BOMB DIGGITY, loads of West Indians -er- Caribbean people -er - (whatever the correct term is these days) from so many different islands; when i lived there my friends were from JA, TnT, Barbados, Antigua, Dominica, Barbuda, Turks-&-Caicos, & other islands i can't even recall now.
The local folks are lovely - once you get past the intial "proving yourself" time period - they nat easy on newcomers but after a time, if your heart is good, they will love and accept you into the fold. The Hawaiian culture is beautiful, based upon nature and love & respect of the land, their music is also wonderful. The native Haw'n food is not for the faint-of-heart, I loved it but that may be an acquired taste for most people! of course they have loads of 'regular' american-style cuisine, as well as the huge Asian-influence as well, so be prepared to feel like you're in Japan instead of America half the time.
Reggae is well-beloved, they have the biggest baddest reggae shows, all the big names tour there, they mixup the shows sometimes with Hawaiian music and reggae combined on the stage - it's the bomb.... often all-day outdoor festivals in these specTACular spots, ocean right there, palm trees, mountains - the place is gorgeous and wonderful. Also loads of clubs for reggae/island music, both live and dub stylee...
So in general it's awesome island-style living - but the expenses dem a killya. that's why i had to leave in the end (plus, I still love the Caribbean better, hands down)
