in the financial world, it is mostly used to prevent money laundering activities though that never seem to stop the officials in new jersey that just got busted, and to charities from fronting money going to terrorist organizations overseas.

Took them somewhere and accepted them. And that was to open a IRA account too.
one state- or federal-issued picture ID (<span style="text-decoration: underline">digital</span> driver license or passort book or passport card or other picture ID like a federal job security card
two other forms of ID that exactly match your first ID
proof of your address where you actually live (like a utility bill, credit card statement, or bank account statement) coz they want to know where you actually live, not just a P.O. Box
your social security card (not just your number, nor a copy of your card, but the actual official SS card)
So, if you have your passport book or passport card, a utility bill and a credit card or bank statement (or 2 different utility bills), and your original Social Security card, that's all you need.
Then, just sign the papers as to the provenance of your money and done with it. Why not? What are you trying to hide about how you got your money? You already paid your income taxes on it, right?
It's not like we all didn't have to do the same, any time after 9/11/2001.
I doubt there's anyone left in this whole damn country - other than illegal aliens, perhaps - who doesn't have at least 2 utility bills and a passport book and/or card and/or driver license.
We can't even get to our assets to sell off and liquidate them without jumping through the same hoops 10 times more than you do just to open a simple bank account. Mr Witchy is still unemployed, and he hasn't been working since mid-February. We have been living off of our accumulated investments all this time. Each time we have to sell some other investment - once in March, twice in April, again in May, and in June, and in July twice - we have to appear in person (often the both of us together) with all of our stuff (passport books, digital driver licences, utility bills and our social security cards), along with notarized statements as the the reason why we need to take our own money out in cash, for heaven sakes!! Deal with it. We don't live in a free country any more. Thank George W. Bush for that.
No worries, coz soon we won't have anything left to us - and then, it won't matter any more. *shrug*

Find another bank. Not ALL banks require dat much stuff. Usually drivers license and your SS#.

but it done already, di account at di commercial bank open already.
