Is it true that the Police take bikes from people and hold bike at police station if they don't have a horn and a light on them? My friend said this happened and police want a set amount of money to give bike back by end of day Monday or go to court Wednesday and see what the judge says. Truth or fiction? If truth, what is going rate to get bike back from police station?

Re: Bikes
police have been doing so for ever.
They have no legal right to ask for any money to return it.
but after going to court the bike may turn up missing.
This is often the case.
His best case is to purchase the likght and horn And take them to the station And asking the station guard for the officer incharge.
explain That he has the horn And the light and would like tgr bike returned do he can fit them.
he is supposed to return the bike with no charge.
any funds paid without a court decision is illegal.
They can't charge storage or safekeeping for the bike.

Re: Bikes
Thanks Dr. Dudd. What you suggested makes the most sense to me. I will suggest he buy those 2 items and go there like you said. Are there any other infractions police pull bikers over for on a regular basis? Does the light take batteries? I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the advice.
