So being new at this and from wat i can remember growing up in JA, i have it in my head that its reasonable and very much attainable to think i could have lil miss potty trained at least partially by age two...by partially i mean at least say 50- 70% of the time we make it to the potty during the days. ....but i could be totally wrong hence y i am starting this thread to hear from you guys.

the books and literature i have (written by farrin ppl) lead me to believe that i should wait until about age 2 before i attempt to train. dem even go as far as to say if u begin training too early the kid will be scared for life end up with a complex and it will actually take longet ( age 4 and older) before dem is full trained.

it also approach potty training as if its a project. ie they advise that the week u decide to start it u dont plant to leave home and u know u just dedicate that week to training.... is dat for real?


here is how i planned to train...and be honest if u think i am in a dream land. ok
i plan to introduce the idea of potty maybe say july (17th months old). i thought i would start out slowly just letting her sit on it to test it out. then wen i know she is about to pooop or she is in the middle of one ( i can always tell ) i would pick her up and put her on. if she stays good if she no stay ok. i planned to just keep doing that approach until she get the idea. i figure its more of a gradual learning thing like creeping/walking as opposed to a project i just decide to tackle in a week or two and get it done.

Am i just setting myself up for disaster? for some reason i just have it in my head that she wont be hard to train. like i say i can alway tell wen she is about to take a poop. i will ask her if she doo doo and of course she says no or she answers in one long line of gibberish. she will repeat the word do do wen ur changing her etc so all that makes me think it will be easy....again...i know nothing about these things so i could be in for an adventure. lol

Ages ago (before i started reading about potty training) i bought a toilet seat cover but i have since decided that buying a potty would be a better idea. She mite feel more comfortable and more relax if her feet can touch ground and she can get on and off by herself.

i was all excited about getting on of these pretty fancy princess potty like this one here
then i read some reviews and change my mind. i want a plane potty that looks close as possible to an adult potty with no music and noise etc. she needs to know its a putty not a toy.

i dont want a chimmy cus i want something a bit more comfortable and not so easy for her to tip over and mek a mess.

this one would be perfect but it makes noises but i guess i could take out the batteries

Hunter began potty training way before his 2nd birthday. It was actually a requirement for the new school here on campus. Anyhew...he didnt have to be completely potty trained, but he did have to make it to the bathroom 80% of the time. They put pullups on the kids at nap time, but them come off when them wakeup.

Now hunter has good and bad days. Although praise jeezas it more good days than bad. Now it may be because Hunter is a boy and im puppah is who im puppah is, but im is just preoccupied with "mommie i did it in the potty mommie.....yeeeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhh! Let me flush it, mommie.....yeaaaaaahhhhhh!"

The gauge for me was when hunter started becoming uncomfortable with his soiled diaper (and di load im would puddung would horrify even di devil) that i knew it was time.

Consistency is KEY!

Didnt start potty training my boys until both of their 2nd birthdays. 2nd birthdays was the starting point according to my grandmother and mother if not before.

My first son was easy, he was potty trained within 2 weeks, after the 2 weeks no accidents during the day or overnight. Easy Peasie!

Son number 2 not so much, He was almost 3 years old before he stopped having accidents during the day, and unfortunately he was a bed wetter until he was 7 or 8 years old. Son# 2 was also a VERY heavy sleeper. He was sleeping thru the night after he was 9 days old, never awaken until about 6 in the morning. Son#1 probably didnt sleep thru the night until he was 9-10 months old. Talk about waking up every two hours without fail. My firstborn was very easy going, 2nd was as stubborn as the day is long and he still is.

Vegas, sounds like you are a step ahead of the game with your attitude by taking it slow and easy.

It burns me to see kids communicatng clearly and that are smart (telling you to take off the soil diaper) and they are still wearing pullups during the day. I knew one kid that I didnt think he would get potty train before he started kindengarten but then again this kid had no type of schedule on anything. I guess I can be judgemental also because when I see potty training not attempted after the age of 2, I am thinking that it is laziness on the mothers part, just easier to put on a pullup.

got the one dat look like the toilet...on screen its cute and fun looking but in person it look kinda stupid. its so tiny lol there is no way she gonna think it looks like a &quot;real&quot; toilet. but i got it for half price which works out to be the same or cheaper than one of the others i was looking at. after seeing it in person i would have never bought it reg price.

so now that i finally got it i am nervous as hell...this makes absoultely no sense. i have the same feeling u get the nite before a vacation to someplace u never been. lol. that nervous excited feeling....yeah theres a word for that

newho...since i first started this thread, she has gotten more vocal and now tells me when she do do. even if she pee she come tell me she do do...guess i need to start teaching her the words pee pee. she will lift up her clothes and starts clawing at the diaper while she say do do do do. neways....i think thats a sign of some kinda readiness. so we'll see how this goes.

the other day daddy changed her diaper and didnt put one back on right away.dont ask mi why she decided to squat on the floor and do her business then she come look for me and say mommie do do. wen mi look har foot dem mess up. den she lead mi go show di floor on big mess lawd have mercy.

very nice. my girls skipped the whole fake potty stage. they were both became adept at perching on the edge of the real toilet to do their business.

i never used a fake potty either...cause me never want to have to clean it, but in the years since i doan know what new toilet technology them come up wid

originally that was my thoughts exactly but she seems scared to sit on the big one. she hold on to me for dear life and screams

this one dont seem hard to clean. the tray comes out easy and u just wash it and put back. i tink i am going to put a bit of water in it before goes that way its easier to dump the stuff....i remember dem use to put water inna mi chimmy so it no stick LOL ok TMI eh

vegas. they have the child insert that can fit on top of the adult toilet.

it is small and fits them, and they will not feel like they are going to fall in the bowl or fall off the edge. some examples below

and all you need is a little step stool to climb up

I am not sure if her problem is feeling like she is going to fall in or if its feeling that she is going to fall off....mind u she is still a lil bit of a ting its not like a 2 yr old's understanding/ maturity.

The seat of this potty does come off and sit on the adult toilet so i mite try putting her on it and see if that makes a difference. I had just tried her on it just to see her reaction.

she used to be scared when the toilet flushed but now she ok. she doesnt run she stands and watch. she is all about putting stuff in and trying to press the flusher too mi only a pray she no bruk it aff. she follows me around so she has seen me use the potty so i think she kinda has an idea wat to do

poor chile a wonder if mi pushing too much we still working out the sleeping, she pushing out teeth by the dozen, we doing ABC and 123 and eyes and nose and mouth. LOL seems like alot eh but then i feel like if i didnt do all those thing i wouldnt know wat to do a day time. i am just not one a dem moms weh can sit and sing the silly songs and mek voices and do baby talk. mi affi talk righted conversation with her.

nothing wrong with adult talk (some experts frown on baby talking to your child)
nothing wrong with counting and ABCs. you can sing the ABCs and the 123s and make it fun. couple minutes a day and then the rest a the time you can have tea with her.

Also, books with rhyming words works well for them at this age.

alphabet magnets on the fridge will help her and they are fun to play with


she too young for them but you can still read them to her at bedtime and put them in her book case for later on

Hunter has both. However im use the toilet with the insert most times, as im is completely enthralled wid di toilet and &quot;i peed, pooped, put duh ducky, da book in di potty and flush it mommie! yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!

Tried the insert. She sat there for a little then tried to stand up and reached out to me. She was not scared though just bored/ short attention span. Totally ok.

She sat on the mini pot longer. I was impressed with how long she sat. I did it rite after i woke her up. She fidgeted and got off then squat rite beside it and peed while playing with the lid.

It has no batteries so it makes no noise. She is just curious and playing with it for the most part but thats ok. She climbs in. Open close. Push it around. Try to take it apart... That kind of thing.
