Pickney cut (self harm) a yard?

so mi was thinking recently that nuhbaddy mi know a yard a primary or high school used to cut themselves. not that mi know of anyway. is this a socio-economic ting or is it cultural? which other countries (in addition to US and Canada) cut up demselves fi relieve emotional pain?

mi trying to think bout wah mi used to do if mi have strong emotions as a kid
- bawl
- suck mi finger (a wonder how likkle wendy doing )
- guh outta street guh play wid mi fren dem
- eat some milo straight
- nyam bread and condense milk

i dont remember having ne emotionally problems/ stress as a child in JA.

u get beating and u promise fi malice off the smaddy weh beat u an never talk to dem again then 5 mins later u back under dem frack tail.

mi and mi bredda use to fight like puss and dog. mi bite up him censored and him bite mi back and it done. or mi empty him draw dem and throw it out the back door. or mi pour water in him school shoes over nite to get back at him for beating mi up.

we go inna di buffet go teif some snacks.

mi stand at the kitchen door on watch while mi bredda dem teif di meat out the pot. then we go to the back yard and share it...

most stress mi have was hot pot burn mi or mi get ketch trying to teif meat on my own. took mi a while to learn the art of closing the pot without making the nose.
or one time milk tin cut off mi finger and mi granny beat mi fi a lick out the pan after she tell mi go dash it weh.


ETA: dog run we dung bcus we chobble dem. ppl run we offa dem property cus we a teif dem fruits.

i tink in this country we too isolated so we get nuff time to sit and have pity party. di poor kids dem lack up lack up inna dem house. is not like a yard wen we use to run up and dung and drop outta tree. no river no deh yah fi go ketch janga. yuh cyan go a bud bush

yuh cyan go pan veranda go fass inna di next door business. nobady nah call u and send u go a shop weh u get fi buy two sweety outa di change and hope dem no notice.

I think in may cases it was kept very quiet...and ignored. easy to write it off as "macka scratch me up"

I had a classmate who we never knew the emotional turmoil he was going through til he locked himself in the bathroom and cut his own throat

that rough. was he from a rich family? (still wondering if is socio-economic).

had one sistren at uwi who had a nervous breakdown and her parents had to come get her but still cannot think of anyone who was cutting.

My sister used to pick out har hair. She'd suck har finga and twists very small sections of her hair (always starting from the back) and then just pull it outta har head!! She'd work on one half of her head in such a fashion that you'd think she had a mirror - it was so neatly done. It was a subconscious thing, I think, as, if we were all together, and she was sucking her fingers, she wouldn't do it. But if she was alone....

nunya, that's tricotillomania and altho is a form of self harm mi nuh sure if is di same kinda ting but i cud be wrong

i guess mi hesitation for calling them the same was that the hair pulling was so obvious and hard to hide where cutting is done in secret and lots of pain go into hiding it for the most part

i know girl who been doing it for a long time.

first manifestation was the cutting of the hair..then at about 10 she would take a fork and scratch her arms or stab her thigh...the most recent(she is 18 now) is using a razor blade to cut her thigh
