one of my worst memories was having to bring an apple to school every day. my aunt used to buy the cheap ones that tasted all dried out. i was jellus of the other kids who got the granny smith ones.

i was too stupid to throw them away, so i'd just eat them in sorrow

Golden delicious &amp; MacIntosh.
Gala &amp; Fuji are also nice... I think it was JonaGold that was yummy as well.


Pepper, apples are a cool weather crop. Dem nah grow nice in hot places.

Pepper,
For a crisp, crunchy, sweet and juicy apple, my favorite is the McIntosh.
I love them with Muenster cheese.

Cortlands are also very nice and are the best for apple pies and tarts since they don't go to mush when cooked and keep the shape of the slice.

Cortlands make wonderful baked apples.

Recipe:

Cut the cores out of a bunch of Cortlands -but leave the bottom whole and don't peel them.
Fill the cavity with a mixture of raisins, walnuts, sugar a small amount of cinnamon, maybe a bit of ginger and nutmeg and a half teaspoon of butter.

Bake them for about 40 minutes in a preheated 350F oven.
Can be served with vanilla ice cream.

johnny, one of my best memories of a canadian adolescence is baked apples for dessert. yummm.

i used to like gala but now i find them a tad too acidic. i like empire apples because they are tart-sweet and a little firmer than the macintoshes, which are also tart. granny smiths i find a little too tough for fresh eating.

i have a golden delicious and a macintosh growing in my yard.

this past weekend i made waldorf salad using three kinds of apples: macintoshes, empire and red delicious.
