Help with fruit cake

Good morning

What am I doing wrong? I make the fruit cake with wine/ rum, but the finish product does not have any alcohol taste to it.
Please help before all my rum cake loving friends banish my cake forever.

There should be tons of rum in the batter....remember the rum will dry out.

After the cake has finished baking, you are supposed to pour the rum and or wine over the cake...allow it to set and soak.

My mommy is the black cake queen.....

just to add to TLC's point, dont just soak the cake one time. Do it more than once. Soak the cake, let it absorb for a couple of days, and do it again, and again....then you get the kinda of black cake you can get drunk from

Here's the recipe from the seasonal dept Fruits should be soaked for awhile in rum/brandy/wine (your choice)

INGREDIENTS :

6 ounces or 1.5 cup flour
8 ounces margarine or butter
8 ounces sugar
4 eggs
1 pound raisins
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 ounces mixed peel
4 ounces cherries
1/2 pound prunes (chopped)
1 cup wine/brandy
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
finely grated rind of 1 lime/lemon
2 tablespoons browning (or burnt brown sugar)

METHOD:
Cream butter, sugar and browning until soft and fluffy.
Sieve all dry ingredients together
Beat eggs, wine/brandy together.
Add egg mixture to creamed butter and sugar.
Add fruits.
Add flour and fold in. Do no over-beat when mixing.
Bake at 350F for 1 1/2 hours.
Yield: 9' round cake.

Every year I have in the back of my mind to make this as a surprise to my household. Never happens. This year, I actually have the fruits soaking so I think it'll be nice Christmas. Thanks for the recipe, I'll compare notes with the one I have, but never tried lol!
