so u notice seh corned beef doan look like beef or even taste like beef:scareyah;

last nite mi open a can and was thinking bout ie. mi read di ingredients and it say
-cooked beef
-beef
-sugar
salt
sodium nitrite (i think if mi memory serve mi rite)

my question now is wah di difference between beef and "cooked beef"

do you mean what's the dif between beef and corned beef?

corned beef is soaked in a brine...that's what "corns" it. REAL corned beef is actually gray from soaking in the brine. i love real corned beef...the corned beef in the package...that red stuff...probably mostly nitrates. I love a new england boiled dinner...made with real corned beef. ooooooo la la...makes nice hash the next day too.

the stuff in the can..not pretty...but makes a great reuben.

i believe it's meant that it's "cooked" rather than fried, baked, grilled. the nitrites is what gives it the red colour.

When in Jamaica, I always have corned beef (bully beef) hash at some point for breakfast with eggs mango and fried cheese cocobread.


Corned Beef Hash

Bully beef
cooked Irish potato
chopped onion

Mix together one tin bully beef, about 6 tins worth of cooked Irish ( regular white potatoes in the U.S.) and two tins of chopped onion.
Salt and pepper to taste.

Fry it up in patties in a little oil until it gets good and brown and the onions are cooked. You can also fry up the whole batch in one BIG patty and serve portions.
Cast iron frying pans work the best. IMO
Serve with ketchup and/or hot sauce.
