Mangoes

My neighbors have been so kind to drop off mangoes for me.

Not the biggest mangoes but <span style="font-style: italic">sweet and juicy</span>.

Later today I'm going to get a bag of BIG Julies.

Lovely julie mangoes - I like the small green skin ones 'blackie' and robbin. I remember as a child picking mangoes and leaving them to 'sweat' for a few days before eating them. After running around all day eating mangoes and other fruits we were never hungry enough to eat our dinner. Mangoes were never sold. Neighbors would give each other fruits and other food stuff. Children without mangoe trees of their own would go to a neighbor's home and ask for mangoes and they would be told to pick as much as they want.

I have no mango trees in my yard and this is why my neighbors are so kind. I was driving home from the shop yesterday when a man who lives a bit up the road called to me and made me stop the car. He came to the window and said, I'd like to give you some mangoes. How are you doing?
I do love this about Jamaica. So true about neighbors sharing. The bigger ones come from another neighbor who also brings me fresh eggs from his chickens, calaloo, peppers, pumpkin and anything else he has growing.
In so many places people are really isolated from interacting with their neighbors. Reasoning on the veranda or on the road, is one of the things I first miss about Jamaica when I go home for a visit.
