mi confuse to. but i sense something that if u gwine have nuff sodium mek sure u have nuff potassium to. and i guess if u gwine rid uself of salt u must make sure at least u maintaining u potassium.

this makes sense now. my mom is religious about eating one banana a day when she takes her blood pressure medication.
I see now why she does so.

ILP, what ive heard is that if u taking water pills for high blood pressure, u supposed to eat at least a half a banana a day for the potassiu. fren of mine developed diabetes from not eating his banana (sorry, mek mi stop fi a lickle *snicker* ). not quite sure of the connection, but the current blood pressure pill mi tekking has an extra ingredient to stop potassium loss.

can't quite make the connection from what the dietician told u, though.

reason is with low or no sodium the body will try to compensate by ridding itself of a proportionate amount of potassium.
The fact that the bodies tolerance to potassium imbalance is very acute. Since sodium and potassium together powers the process that is responsible for all cell function.

about 6 months ago mom got extremely sick and we had to take her to the ER

turns out because she slacked off on her banana ritual her potassium levels were dangerously out of whack. They kept her for 2 days which is a big deal around here.

I think at that point her dr changed her medications because it was really dangerous for her for a while.

dr dudd to the rescue! i knew u would be here to clarify the sodium potassium connection.

nylah, wow, that was scary with ur mom. mi glad dem gimme bp pills with potassium. though i do have to have that checked on a regular now.

last time i went for a blood test mi notice this sign on the wall that said u noffi ask patients fi squeeze something fi mek the vain standup because that will affect the potassium reading in the blood test. of course, first thing the lab assistant gave me was a bottle to squeeze caw mi have notoriously small vains. mi had to point out the sign to her!!!

BOAL I thought the same thing too and I am I am drinking a Reisling with supper too

once dudd gave the explanation I remembered what we went thru with mom a while back and it makes sense.

I take bp pills on occasion but mine are not water pills so I dont have the same potential issues like mom did with the potassium. With her levels being so low, her heart could not beat properly nor could she retain fluids. As fast as they pumped it in, it left her system even faster

so while we on this less salt ... I use sea salt because this coach I had suggested I do because I was constantly having muscle contract when I went to work out... dont know if it is mind over matter but since then none so no regular salt for me. I remember him saying something about minerals yadda yadda but I didnt really pay attention so since unno so sumart some explain it ... and yes mi concerned bout mi blood pressure as I dont want to take meds to control it.

They believe that just because the people work in the hospital and do their job on a daily basis, they are necessarily doing it properly.
You wouldn't believe how of ten I have to remind physicians about important information that they simply forget.
you would think that they know it.
Well you are right they know it.
The problem is that sometimes they forget it completely. This is usually caused by having to do without adequate equipment, and adopting methods that are not ideal, but is the best under the circumstances.
Over time they habituate to the less effective method,and have to be reminded that they don't have to in cases where they don't.

twiny, i had made the switch to sea salt as well. but i never could really judge it right, specially the coarse one, which was great on salmon.

so mi juss decide fi cut it out, at least in my cooking.

theres a connection between salt and muscles. i think ilp know, she mentioned pretzels earlier.

You right Dr Dudd ... 3 of the last 4 times I had blood drawn I was shocked that I barely felt the needle going in but they got all they needed and really quickly and very little bleeding after. The 4th trip looks like the guy knew my result and I would be coming back for a few months he rammed the needle into my arm it was hurting for hours after and the cotton had a good amt of blood on it. I seriously felt like doing this to him.

I use both the coarse one and the fine one... and I use it just like I would the regular salt (but I have been limiting the amt I use for a while)

</div></div>I think ILP's reference is that she looses nuff salt during her running/excercise via sweating.

I know lack of or low potassium will cause cramps during work out as well, but as to the sea salt I am not in the know as to that connection.
