friday heevlings nyammings?

when i was small, my auntie never cooked fridays.

it was either fish and chips (wrapped in simulated newspaper type wrappings), kfc or some hungry boy dinners or frozen chicken or beef pies that she'd put in the oven for about 30 minutes or so.

do you guys have friday traditions? after the drudgery workaday week?

Friday is normally a junk food day here too...unless I have leftovers mi nuh generally cook pan fridays..

saturday is soup or curry chicken

saturday, winter or summer was beef soup or stew peas day. even in the height of august dog day weather, my aunt would put on the been shank wid di cut up carrot and celery and onion. dat would take mussi alla 16 hours fi cook.

in the winter tho, nothing was better than coming in from the cold to that sweet, sweet smell. i think it's all in the carrots and celery.

Growing up we always had fish on Fridays - in keeping with my mom's Catholic roots. Most times it was prepared from the day before as well.

Nowadays, because of that tradition little cooking happens on Fridays. Either I order in (normally Chinese Food) or pickup some Sushi, or just eat something junkie like Banana Fritters with white bread on Friday evenings.

now I just do something simple for a friday supper, like sandwich etc.

my now friday tradition is to go for korean food. or sushi. fried salmon skin rolls.

fridays no cooking was done, saturdays was soup day. as a kid nothing was better than eating soup (after a long day cleaning and washing...which was a big production inna my house). mi would essie if my brothers got more dumpling or potatoe than me. Soon mi muddah had to start mek ilp special dumpling fi add to har soup.

one thing mi memba doh is daht satidey night was daddy's out wid di boys night...lata mi fine out (fram im) daht im hated my mothers soup, so as to not hurt her feelings im would heng wid di boys.

lawd mi memba di satdeh whole day house cleaning and cloze washing. yu know even doah mi aunty had washing machine, all yu cuddan hear is screep screep of her hand washing alla mi *fawda* construction worker pants dem. him had him owna bizniz as a contractor.

di beef soup was devine. still can't mek it di sed way.

mommy use fi force us to eat soup on saturday too

until me fadda seh "if the children doan like soup..why u keep giving it to them and forcing them to eat it?"

then she did start cook food on saturdays.

yeh. it kinda was boring. every rahtid sunday di big couldron a soup in front a yu. mi aunty believed in <span style="font-size: 26pt">BIG</span> portions.
