i collect old plates. i don't like a matching set of plates. my sister once gave me a set of plates and i donated them to the salvation army.

likewise my cups. but i like anything interesting.

what kind of plates are in your pantry.

<span style="font-family: 'Comic Sans MS'">Nice post, Sue. I have a small collection of early american dinnerware that I mostly use as wall art. I'll take a pic to post here later. My husband started the collection before we met. I became fascinated with early american dinnerware. Turns out that my own grandmother in Jamaica, had a dinner set that her daughter, my aunt, sent her in the 1940s.

Now in the 1960s there were several Jamaican ceramic dinnerware businesses and my mother bought a set that featured a lily-of-the-valley motif. She still has them and that company no longer exists. We also had some Jamaican Independence commemorative china. Oh boy, I could go on.

Gungu, back in the 50's fiestaware was very popular until they found out the way to get those bright colours was from the use of lead.



i search high and low in flea markets, second hard stores and the like for alfred meakin and the 24k stuff.

I know about Fiestaware from the 1950s, mostly through my husband who managed his friend's tiny antique shop in Cambridge, Mass. while friend went away to Europe. More about this friend later as I have some china I think you might be very interested in.

Anyway, here's what I do with some of the 1950s Fiestaware and other dinnerware we have. When we bought our house 20 years ago, a 1950s rambler, the previous owner had these china hutches installed in the knotty-pine paneled dining room. So I just stuck our eclectic collection there.



The green tea pot and stand are cast iron from San Francisco china town and the egg cups are plastic but other than that, all early Am.

nice collection, is the other day me buy a orange cast iron pot, its kind of oblong...nice for oxtails and tings like dat~

My sister happens to think it is an uncivilized society that does not serve a boiled egg in an egg cup! She cursed the U.S. so much for this shortcoming that years ago on a trip to England, I brought her back porcelain handpainted egg cups. My younger JAP* sister
