Jamaicans and Fried Chicken

someone please to explain why fried chicken gets smothered in either ketchup or some kind of sauce in JA???????

I mean, it isnt like the sauce is good but the point of fried chicken is the crunch factor and the sauce takes that away

Nuff times I had to bawl out "no!" before my chicken was drowned in the stuff

is the evolved jamaican cuisine dat...tradtional does not call fe nu gravy (wid brown sugar at dat),ketchup,etc

an yu knoe me neva realise seh is an island wide ting...

i thought it was a cook shop style..

den someone on here indicated that was the only way they knew to prepare..den me realise de cuisine had "moved on" from what I grew up wid

and no..i don't see the point

okay that is an interesting commentary on how things change. What I wonder is who the hell decided that was an "evolved" move 'cause u are right....it makes no blastid sense to me.

i notice that those who migrate usually end up being more "purists" about their culture of origin than those who stay behind...i guess it is because those who do not migrate become a part of the natural evolution of that culture..

I agree the sauce taste nice but why fried chicken

you fry the bird to have it crunch in your mouth so that still makes no sense to soften up the crispy skin with &quot;gravy&quot;

I dont like gravy on my fry chicken but I will drown it with ketchup though ... and sweet and sour is fry chicken in the sauce so there is no better way to have it.

me luvvv fe order fry chicken/rice and peas a Ja, dem fry chicken niceeee cyaan dun, and Ny, de chicken crunchy same way, cause it no soak in deh, a when dem a serve it, dem put de gravy, but me is a gravy person, so me luvvv it!! yummmm yuummm

now if u want fry chicken/french fries, dem u wudden sauce pan it,
