Chestnuts roasting on an open fire!

dat song inna mi head since mi and mi sistren encounter a chestnut tree inna mi neighborhood.

dere is chestnuts fi stone dawg all ova di grung . mi carry home a few and did some research fi confirm dat is indeed chestnut.

how oonu nyam it? roast it, bwile it, microwave it, mek flour

any repowt pon di taste?

i usually roast it in the oven. i dunno - about 1/2 hr? long time mi no dweet. cut an x in the outer skin first, otherwise the chestnut will burst from the heat. to me, it tastes a little like cake - texture and flavour.

ETA: after u roast them u peel and eat them.

i used to buy it from the italian vendors when i first came to canada. those were the days.

i found pre-roasted ones in a vacuum bag. all you have to do is slit the bag open and microwave for a minute. they remind me of the roasted jackfruit seeds.

At the Asian market, Sue? I've seen them. Also roasted chestnuts are delicious in stuffing. Sausage, chestnuts, oysters, stuffing

which shop u go sue? the one south of dundas, on the east side of spadina? that's the one i go. planning a trip there today and wouldn't mind picking up some pre-roasted chestnuts?

lawd me have chestnut to stone dawg, which sometime when these critters bother me is exactly what I do. I roast them occasionally on open fire outside lawd dem good but when yu used to having something around I guess they lose that appeal dem will just stay there on the ground, blastid squirrel think it belong to them.

1. Lucky Moose in particular - @ Beverly &amp; Dundas (or thereabouts);

2. Oriental Harvest - @ Dundas &amp; Spadina - it's nice and clean in there, but very jumbled. but it's more or less located near the Tropical Fruit Market - the one that sells jackfruit, sweetsop, and all those exotic fruits.

3. I go to the two on the east side of Spadina if i can't find what i need in 1. and 2. above.

mi love dem gaawn to bed too.. anyone live inna Toronto have a tree??

I roast dem all di time .. jus tek a knife and chip off piece of the nut b4 roastin or when the gas build up inna di nut, it will explode inna di oven ..
