cooking Suesumba

I mean the vegetable not the poster

anyway one of my friends from university come to spend christmas with me and she brought this vegetable, well she cooked it with cod fish and and the something bitter only she eat it. I am wondering if she made it the right way as she is Trini and I think that is a jamaican dish.

I asked her and she said what do you know you a canadian and is a jamaican showed her how to make it. So somebody please post a <span style="font-weight: bold">recipe</span> for cooking suesumba as there is some uncooked ones here. I plan on freezing it to use in the future I was going to blanche it first. If I cannot get a recipe I will just throw them out as she says she is not taking the uncooked ones when she leaving.

bwile them then cook them up with salt fish, onions, peppers and tomato ...as far as I know they are bitter, that's why i dont eat it

Susumber, known as turkey berries, devil's fig, pea-eggplant in other countries, is very bitter served up the way Twiney described. We had a plant in our yard and my mother was the only one who ate it. It had an unpleasant smell when cooked. You know, it is also poisonous - I seem to remember something about this in Jamaica - or about the &quot;male&quot; vs the &quot;female&quot; susumber ... but I may be wrong on this.

never had it and dont plan to eat it so dont have a recipe for it. good luck

thai people also eat it. referred to as thai eggplant. it's good with firm steam fish. or put it in before the more delicate fish. no matter what seasoning you use, it's like oomph!

well the mr. blanche them until we decide what to do with them. I am waiting until my Jamaican friend come back from JA will phone her and get some ideas on how to cook it with seafood,as the mr. says he is stumped on how to make this.
