Soup for the Cold Soul.....Brrrrr...Part 2

Damp, wet and cool here in Eastern Canada...a far cry from not long ago when we were blessed with warm temps and sunshine.

Just a tease I say....lol...

So today...it's offically another 'soup for the soul' day.

I am making enough for my aging in-law's, just up the road and my pregnant daughter. ( maybe I will throw something in to induce labour and bring on my first born grandchild!...I can't stand the wait...9 more days!!)

Anyways.. I picked up pork hocks...and I started a pot on the stove...

Simmered them in water with onion and garlic...for an hour...

Pork hocks are interesting...after cooking for a while you have to take off the skin and fat, then actually I use a bit of the juice. Not wanting any fat in the juice, I start again with more waterm, bouillon and some small chopped veggies.



Anyone else like to use pork hocks??...

The final product looks tasty.

I have never cooked with fresh pork hocks. On a couple occasions I have used the smoked ones in greens.

BTW, that first picture....everything looks good expect the raw meat. I think is the blood dat mek it look

I have never cooked with fresh ones either and agree that the soup looks really good. I did not see that coming just to look at the ingredients so you do have skills.

I have used smoked hamhocks in greens, beans, and peas. To me, they don't leave enough seasoning behind and there is too little edible meat left when I'm through. The ones I have used are much smaller than the size of the ones in your pic.

i had some brown stew trotters in jamaica - years ago - i have never seen them again - they were excellent

I remember having pork hocks when I grew up. My mother, who used her pressure cooker religiously would do pork hocks, saurerkraut and apples with new potaotes. It was a fabulous meal.

These ones were very meaty....ad once the skin and fat was off, they just fell apart in the soup.
