Falafel

Taking my first stab at making my own falafel....

Has anyone ever made it before?

I've made it a number of times from a mix.
The key to a good falafel sandwich or falafel plate is the sauce which traditionally is sesame tahini sauce made up of sesame tahini which is a sesame paste that resembles peanut butter in texture but is made of pureed roasted sesame seeds. I don't have the proportions in my head but the sauce is made of sesame tahini, lemon juice, finely mashed fresh garlic, salt a little olive oil and a dash of water to thin it out to a consistency you like.
I eat it on pita bread with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and sweet onion (Vidalias are out now!)

Fry up the felafel balls until crispy , break them up on the pita bread half, pour the tahini sauce over them and top with the veggies, roll it up and nyam.

Did you make the felafels from scratch or from a mix? It is easy from scratch too

You can tell when somebody hungry and not eating, yes?

My cut off time is 7 pm and I think it might need to be adjusted. That time was for folks who ate dinner no later than 5.

There are all kinds of things that I could picture shoving in a falafel right now until it needed a knife and fork to eat. I never made one myself, but I can assure you that I'm going to eat a healthy breakfast tomorrow. I might need to peel some potatoes and put them in a bowl of water in the fridge right now.

Yogurt and cucumbers? Yum! I could work that in. Cucumbers are mostly water anyway.

I made it from scratch and it came out really good. I figured out that distinctive taste and its the cumin...... I heard there is a mix you can use, but I like to know exactly whats going into my system.

The yogurt sauce is soooo easy and tasty.

I didn't use the entire batch I made, so I can have it for lunch or even dinner tomorrow.

I spread a little hummus, some feta, a little of the yogurt sauce and wrapped that baby up.....

LOL@ Tulip...it is hard looking at food at night...

But that sure does look delicious, I have never made it myself either, but will have to put that on my list of new things to try!
