The liquid has a fishy smell to me. It doesn't stay with the noodles though once you rinse them off, but I found it unexpected. Let me put it like this, the liquid smells like it looks. I'd rather go head and substitute some spaghetti squash or something that does even attempt to pass for pasta except in appearance.
