masala = a mix of spices.
I'm guessing it's probably this:
available in a Trini/Guyanese store.
However, since such a small amount is used, I doubt it would make that much of a difference in the overall taste?

All the dishes on this man's site are delicious. He's a Trini named Chris who lives in Canada (not sure where). He also has a YouTube site. His is made with canned chickpeas though: http://caribbeanpot.com/curry-channa-with-aloo/
His curry stew chicken is one of the best recipes I have tried on there - combines the best of two great dishes. di current mr ilp diddah mek up im face while mi was cooking it doh. im ask were the mean was
im kinna taste some when wi was eating dinner yesterday.
mi come in here now...is how much bowl inna di sink.
mi ask weh di heap ah dish come from..hear im: "I warmed up some of that <span style="font-weight: bold">curried beans</span> you cooked. I was hungry"
den have di nerves fi tell mi it good with bread 
is a shame fi real.
mi follow your recipe to the nine except mi add 1tsp of di masala weh mi pick up from di international market. mi naw buy no more channa & aloo you hear mi...now daht mi can mek it
