With Christmas turkey that is.
My family’s normal Christmas meal includes turkey and ham. Aside from Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, I never get to taste ham so I was kind of looking forward to it since I didn’t get none on Easter or Thanksgiving.
Well, the family has turned into a group where the non-pork eaters have officially outnumbered the pork eaters so I’m cooking a beef roast instead of ham. The non-pork eaters are mostly non-beef eaters too, but there are still some hold-overs.
Anyhoo, I know I digress and none of that has anything to do with turkey. After years of effort in enjoying a traditional meal, both my parents have admitted that they hate turkey. If you ask me, the problem was in the preparation but you’d never get me to admit it out loud to my mom’s face. However, they both like fried turkey which I dearly hate.
So yeserday my dad says he doesn’t want turkey. It kind of peeved me and I said then I guess upi best not eat any but I wanted turkey, I’m cooking, and so we’re having it. He then suggested I get a turkey breast. They’re always too dry when I cook them and really the only part I look forward to is the drumstick.
Well, what could I do to resolve this dysfunctional family situation? I bought a Cajun fried turkey from Popeyes. It takes 2 to 4 days to defrost. If it’s fully defrosted, then you cook it in the oven for about an hour and a half and if not, you cook it for 3-1/2 hours.
Buying the meat already seasoned and prepared is a new step for me. I really had to stop and think if I had gone too far this time. There’s so much room for error, but I’m following through. I feel like a fake because I’m not altogether sure that I will admit I didn’t cook it myself.
