you can make your own:

powdered milk
sugar

boil

don't let it stick to the pot so use teflon pan for boiling. it takes about one hour. you can google the recipes and see which one suits your taste. but the one i made was with the powdered milk and white sugar.

Ingredients
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6 cups whole milk shopping list
4 1/2 cups sugar shopping list
1/2 vanilla bean
shopping list

How to make it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In saucepan, add milk and sugar
Heat over medium low heat adding vanilla bean, scraped with the back edge of a knifeadding seeds and pod
When sugar is dissolved, raise heat to medium high and bring to between simmer and boil, stirring occasionally, about 1 hour
Do not let milk stick to bottom of pan
Milk will thicken, turn very light brown, then darken to light tan
Strain through sieve into bowl and cool
Will reduce to 4 1/2 cups
Keeps 2 weeks in fridge

A few months ago I stopped drinking coffee which I drank black and sweetened for years. But tea is just not tea without milk in it. So I got into the bad condensed milk habit because I was curious

but what is the advantige of MAKING, for one HOWER u owna milk wen it can buy fi 89 cent? by time u buy di 3 carton a regular milk, plus di heapa sugar, and dont figgat dat vanilla bean- it gone hummuch price. ANd mi sure di 4 cup a milk gonna concentrate dung to probly bout a tin's worth a condensed

btw, wats the prob w/ the liquid creme things (intl supm and them others, cant thinl now)- dem bad for u dont? When i use that, i dont use sugar. but mi a decrease mi coffee caw itta skyrise mi pressha/

Which one is the one you use in cereal - condensed or evaporated?

My mom always liked that room temperature can milk in her cereal and I like ice cold cow's milk (now soy). I think one she mixed with water to thin it out. I should email her the recipe.

I just did a little research into Splenda.
It said that they add a dextrose to it to bulk it up and that is not a good thing for diabetics but a diabetes organization still lists it as one of four sugar substitutes they recommend for diabetics.
They also make a liquid version of Splenda which does NOT have the dextrose and which is preferable for diabetics.

You cannot use Splenda in breads and cakes as the chemistry is wrong and the cakes will come out too dry but it is okay in pie fillings, puddings (wet things). I recently used it when I made a Concord grape pie and it was just fine.

We use it in coffee and tea and wherever else possible to avoid the calories in sugar.

You can roll strawberries, tangerines, oranges in it that aren't sweet enough iand not worry about the calories or sugar (diabetes) and as much as you want in your coffee and tea but again, the liquid version seems better for diabetics..

It doesn't have any aftertaste either.

ahhhh diabetes isn't an issue as long as yuh not literally soaking ERYTHING you consume, in sweet milk.

i have it every day in my coffee, and no matter WHAT changes i make to my eating habits, i is NAT givin up my one cuppa coffee and sweet milk in the morning. <span style="font-style: italic">NEVAH,</span> y'hear me!!!

for everything else i now use soymilk, almond milk, or rice milk, but NOT IN my COFFEE!!!!



and no chemical sugar substitutes - no more packaged &quot;diet&quot; foods or beverages - the chemicals are nearly worse than the sugar.

I don't drink milk - never liked it.

And is only two teaspoon of condensed milk ... ok, maybe four ... I consume each day

why yes, Mizz Peas, i have indeed been known to walk widdit when traveling within the USA, cuase you just never know when you go someplace here, if them agoh have it on the store shelf. sprecially in a town where there's no latin or west indian people around.

and at the airport in Mobay they looked at me like i had two heads, AND laugh after me to baxide, when they check my baggage and find de 2 tin in there fi carry back.
(i didn't wanna haf to stop at the store on my way home usee)
